JANUARY 2023
Still Waters adult day center news & updates
Still Waters Adult Day Center is a person centered, faith based, and activity rich center for our seniors. We provide a safe place Monday - Friday for seniors to engage with other seniors to encourage social, emotional, and physical well-being.
Looking forward to 2023
We are looking forward to 2023! 2022 ended in great success. During the last week of December, we ALMOST reached our capacity of 25 guests in one day. If two weren't sick, we would have hit that number! That would have been the first time for this year. We have 3 families working on the enrollment process to hopefully start the first of January. We are blessed to offer amazing services to our surrounding community to offer a safe place for loved ones to go while caregivers get the respite they need also. If you know someone in need of day services, please have them contact us for more information.

January we will be replacing our carpets in the activity room and replacing the carpet in the dining room and art room with laminate flooring. We will be purchasing 25 new chairs to put in the art room. Thanks to all that supported during Giving Tuesday to help us meet this goal! Look for pictures in next month's Enews.

Starting in January our Butler students will return to finish the second phase of their music study with our guests. Our IUPUI graduate student, Tori, will be returning to provide art therapy Mondays and Fridays for the remaining semester. We are so blessed to have such a great relationship with our local universities to bring such diverse programming opportunity to our guests.
Caregiver Spotlight

Miss Irma joined us in March 2022. Her daughter was trying to juggle full time work as a nurse and a full-time responsibility as a caregiver. She also knew she needed support to help with her mental health. Her daughter, Margie, has so much love for her mother that she wanted only the best for her. Miss Irma was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s about 18 months ago. She moved in with Margie about 15 months ago after an unsuccessful stay in a memory care unit. She has been attending Still Waters since then.

Margie says, 'Still Waters is the reason mom has been able to stay in my home. I started mom off as part time but rapidly decided she needed full time. On the days mom is not at Still Waters, I can tell she misses it. Mom needs activities, purposeful activities and socialization. I thank God for Still Waters, I cannot imagine how hard this journey would be for me and mom without it.' Miss Irma knows how fortunate she is having Margie as her daughter. The love the two have for one another is shown everyday she drops and picks up her mother.

As a caregiver don't forget to ask for help. As we always say at Still Waters, we are one large family supporting one another. Being a caregiver is a difficult journey but having friends, family, and staff on your side makes the journey more bearable.
This month let us honor Martin Luther King
Every day at Still Waters I see the impact of Dr. Martin Luther King. At Still Waters we are building a community and a culture of inclusion. Our guests and staff are all connected and invested in the well-being of one another. We celebrate the uniqueness that we each bring to the center. The love at the center is contagious.

This month we will participate in various service projects to support our community. Look for them in next month's edition.

'Love is the greatest force in the universe. It is the heartbeat of the moral cosmos. He who loves is a participant in the being of God." - Martin Luther King, Jr.
Gift Wrapping Fundraiser
Special shout out to all the volunteers and families that supported our gift-wrapping fundraiser in December. We wrapped hundreds of gifts over 10 days. Our volunteer elves brought magic to families for the holiday season. Don't forget to mark this on your calendar for next year. This is a great way to get your gift wrapping done while supporting Still Waters.

Thanks again to all our gift-wrapping volunteers.

This beautiful gift of devotion to another human being often results in self-neglect. When we can access and honor our own feelings and needs, share similar experiences with others, and discover the lessons along our paths, we return to our loved ones strengthened and replenished.
