Gold Cup Parade Announces Changes to Parade Route
|
Charlottetown, PE - The Gold Cup Parade Committee is announcing changes to the Gold Cup Parade route. Changes will impact the second half of the parade’s traditional route and are being made to alleviate negative traffic impacts and access to the core of downtown Charlottetown, as well as allow for a safer and more seamless parade dismantling area.
Beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 18, the Gold Cup Parade will once again head south on North River Road from Queen Charlotte Intermediate School, turning left on Brighton Road and continuing on Euston Street, before turning right on Great George Street and right on Grafton Street. Changes to the route will begin at this point in the parade: instead of turning left on Queen Street and continuing on Water Street to Prince Street, the parade will travel straight on Grafton Street, turning right on Rochford Street, then left on Fitzroy Street where the parade will end.

DCI Launches the Big Red # 150th Infographic, 1873-2023
|
This year, 2023, marks the 150th anniversary of Prince Edward Island joining Confederation as Canada's seventh province. In honour of this occasion, Downtown Charlottetown Inc (DCI) has designed an infographic for our infamous 2023 BIG RED numbers. The graphic which overlays on our 2023 display includes historical facts of the year: clippings from local papers, photos of the Mayor and Premier of the day, newspaper ads, and stories, and photos capturing historic properties, as they looked 150 years ago. This project provides Islanders and visitors a chance to explore the beautiful visual and celebrate the anniversary, learning about the past along the way. Check out the ‘market prices’ of the day from the local paper, learn about the Charlottetown Railway and so much more.
Our BIG RED # have been the location of thousands of commemorative photos over the past 10 years. The backdrop of so many happy occasions, weddings, Graduation, family reunions, birthdays, visit keepsakes. This beautiful installation enhances this important downtown feature and makes it even more interesting. So come celebrate with us, learn some history and capture the memory.
Thanking the The PEI 150 Celebration Fund – for supporting this impactful project.

Bike Rack Cost Sharing Initiative
|
The City of Charlottetown is once again offering the Bike Rack Cost Sharing Initiative! This incentive is a great opportunity for local businesses to install a bike rack at their establishment for a reduced cost.
The City of Charlottetown will pay 50% of the cost of the 4-bike bike rack, and the business is responsible to pay the other 50% as well as to install and maintain the bike-rack over its lifetime. For the 2023 season the cost of the bike rack is $450+hst, which would be cost shared at $225+hst each.
