Construction Update

Champlain Parkway Project

DATE: Friday, December 8, 2023

SPECIAL NOTICE:

Winter shutdown for the Champlain Parkway Project continues, with major construction activities on hiatus until the spring. Please note that SDK will maintain an on-site presence throughout the winter shutdown. Crews may be seen performing field inventory work, such as potholing in preparation for future work.

Next week, SDK will conduct minor construction activities throughout the project area. East Coast Signals will be on-site to install traffic signals along the Champlain Parkway throughout the winter.

TRAVEL NOTICE:

Please be advised that the newly constructed segment of the Champlain Parkway between Home Avenue and Lakeside Avenue has not been completed and is not open for public access. Vehicular traffic along this segment is prohibited. Pedestrian and bicycle access along this portion of the shared-use path is restricted. This area will not be maintained throughout the winter.

All travel surfaces along pre-existing roads, including newly constructed roadways, sidewalks, and shared-use paths on Pine Street, Lakeside Avenue, Home Avenue, Flynn Avenue, and Sears Lane are open and will continue to be maintained throughout the winter.

DURATION:

Work throughout the winter shutdown will continue to be restricted to between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS:

Throughout the winter shutdown, work will take place predominantly off the roadway with minor impacts to traffic.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:

General Clean-Up

Crews will continue general project clean-up throughout the project area. There is the potential for short shoulder closures to complete this work.

Tree Planting

Crews will continue planting trees along the Champlain Parkway between Home and Lakeside Avenues next week. This work will take place off the roadway with no impact on traffic.

Landscaping

Landscaping crews are working to install brick pavers on Flynn Avenue at the entrance to City Market and the pocket park on the northeast corner of Flynn Avenue at the Champlain Parkway and will continue this work through next week. This work will take place predominately off the roadway. There is the potential for short shoulder or single-lane closures to complete this work.

Traffic Signal Installation

East Coast Signals will be on-site throughout the winter shutdown, working to install the traffic signal equipment at the intersections of the Champlain Parkway at Home Avenue, Flynn Avenue, Sears Lane, and Lakeside Avenue. This work will take place predominantly off the roadway; however, some installation work may require a short shoulder closure or lane closure to install any overhead equipment.

East Coast Signals plans to begin installing the overhead signal cross arms TODAY, Friday, December 8, at the intersection of Home Avenue and the Champlain Parkway. This work will continue next week, starting at the Champlain Parkway intersection at Home Avenue before moving onto Flynn Avenue, Sears Lane, and Lakeside Avenue. This work will require single-lane closures and short traffic stoppages as crews install the overhead equipment. Stoppages should last approximately 15 minutes.
