A Word from Worship

Greetings New Life Church family and friends,

Happy May! It always seems like a sweet and happy month in the year, as I think of beautiful spring flowers, a special time to honor and celebrate our mothers, whether they are still with us or not, and a time when things slow down just a little as we look forward to the lazy days of summer. All these things could be the stuff of what my friends used to call a romantic summer read. I like to think that God gives us the gift of joy and hope. We are saved by His grace and our job is to put our faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior. We can trust that He has a plan and a purpose for our lives. I believe that if we ask the Holy Spirit to guide us each day, He'll show us what to do. Since His grace is a gift, we don't have to earn His love or help. I believe that we are each His masterpiece and He is delighted with how He made us since we are His beloved children. Ephesians 2:8-10 tells us - "God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago."  I believe each day is a gift from God - even the ones that aren't filled with sunshine and roses.  He doesn't promise us a problem-free life. Sometimes the difficult days are the best opportunities for me to connect and grow. I have had some tough times in the past but it's those times when I search deeper into scripture and prayer. I mentioned last week that both Don and I had been sick with the flu. I will be honest and admit this has been a lengthy and difficult time. I've actually told a few people things have been downright ugly at times. But in the midst of scary and discouraging symptoms,

medication that caused horrid side effects in addition to fevers, coughs, and more, God has sent joy and hope on many occasions. From prayers and love from friends and family with offers of rides to pick up needed items, to those of you who listened patiently as I wept from the strong doses of steroids I was on- I thank you for caring.

Imagine my joy one evening when my sweet granddaughter sent me a video of her beautiful 2-year-old daughter -my precious Marley saying her prayers before bed:

" Dear God - please bless Papa and Grammy. Make them well and happy and healthy. Amen" It is a memory and gift I will treasure forever. I am happy to say I am hopeful that we are soon to be back to full steam and all glory and praise to our Heavenly Father for His mercies.

Be kind to each other and join us for prayer on Thursdays.

I'm praying for you!

Greetings from the Music Ministry

Hello New Life Church!

In John 4 we read the story of the woman at the well, where Jesus says to her, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst again.”

Jesus uses this metaphor to show how it is only He who can supply our every need and satisfy us completely. Thirst is such a powerful craving in our earthly bodies. Everyone understands unquenched thirst. Jesus wants us to crave and desire a relationship with Him and uses this physical need to express just how much we should seek a relationship with Him. We should crave Him with the same intensity we crave water when we are utterly parched. Do we want Him that much? Do we need Him for our very existence?

Jesus invites us all to come to Him and receive this living water. He calls the weary, tired, and poor to come rest in Him. In Matthew 11:28-30 Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Are you craving Jesus? Are you coming to Him with all your burdens and drinking of the living water He offers? This week our anthem bids you come. I pray that we all will drink of the Living Water Christ offers. Lay it all down and Come to the water, Come to the Lord.

Come to the Water - By John B. Foley / arr. by Jack Schrader

O let all who thirst, let them come to the water

And let all who have nothing, let them come to the Lord

Without money, without price

Why should you pay the price, except for the Lord?

And let all who seek, let them come to the water

And let all who have nothing, let them come to the Lord

Without money, without strife

Why should you spend your life, except for the Lord?

And let all who toil, let them come to the water

And let all who are weary, let them come to the Lord

All who labor without rest

How can your soul find rest, except for the Lord?

And let all the poor, let them come to the water,

Bring the ones who are laden, bring them all to the Lord

Bring the children, without might

Easy the Load and light, come to the Lord

Come to the water

Come to the Lord

I would love to invite anyone who would be interested in helping with the music ministry this summer to reach out to me. We would love to have solos and instrumentalists and even more choir participants, even if you are normally not in the choir all year. E-mail me if you are interested.

Also, If you love to sing, please consider joining the Chancel Choir. We meet on Thursday evenings from 7-9 PM. We sing most Sunday mornings during the 9:15 service and are very flexible with travel plans and needing to be away at times. We have a wide variety of musicians with various backgrounds and there is a place for you! Please consider coming to a rehearsal to see if you would like to join us in this very fulfilling ministry.
