Books of the Bible

Students in the Upper Elementary formation class have been studying the way the books of the Bible are organized. They've learned the general categories of books and are very close to being able to put all 66 books in order! A catchy song and several games have made the learning fun!

FROM THE RECTOR

When I interviewed to come to Saint Paul's, I had a lot of questions relating to what the experience of my family would be like in the church. There are lots of faithful ways for pastors' families to live in relation to the church the pastor serves. The pattern in my family has been to have the church as a central part of our household life—where and with whom I serve is a matter of utmost importance for the shape of my kids' lives. My questions weren't at all based in suspicion or doubt. I just didn't know y'all yet and so needed to know as much as I could, especially about this, as we discerned together. The most compelling response the Search Committee gave was to refer me to a sermon preached by one of our then-teens on a recent Senior Sunday. John Robertson said something like, "Watch that sermon, and you won't need to worry about the church and your kids."

I did watch that young person's powerful testimony of how the people of Saint Paul's accompanied, supported, and loved them all through their childhood, and it was very encouraging for a priest about to throw his own kids into a parish after meeting only about a dozen wonderful members of it.

This Sunday is Senior Sunday at Saint Paul's, and I expect that we'll hear again something about the holy work you have done in faithfully accompanying people through their childhoods and into young adulthood. It is some of the holiest work we together do. And on Senior Sunday we not only get to celebrate our graduating seniors, we also get an opportunity to renew and deepen our commitment to walking with young people toward God's beloved community.

Please make this Sunday morning a priority. The nurturing of young people in their relationship with God is the work of the whole church AND is a gift to the whole church. Our kids need to receive our support. And in ways we may sometimes forget, we have a need to give that support.

THANK YOU, SAINT PAUL'S

Thank you for lending your photogenic selves to a morning full of picture taking last Sunday. Mark Albertin took dozens and dozens of pictures, capturing life at Saint Paul’s on a typical Sunday morning. In the coming weeks he’ll narrow down and edit those photos and share them with us for use on our new website. As Fr. Eric wrote in the Weekly Postings last week, creating a new website is a key goal in our strategic plan. It takes a village to “raise” a new website. Stay tuned for further updates on our progress!

The Sunday Forum Series:

Being Salt and Light

Sundays, 9:30-10:30 AM, The Berlin Room

Mother Kimberly leads a new series in our Sunday Forum, 9:30 AM. What do the Holy Scriptures tell us about being salt and light? How can Christians add “seasoning” to a world that seems to already have its own flavor? How can Christians illuminate spaces that seem to embrace the status quo? How can a simple conversation and a way of being become a spark that ignites a positive exchange and leaves people wanting more? Let us walk together, share stories, and discover how our daily living can become liberating ways that will leave people wanting more.
