At the 2024 Electricity Distributors Association (EDA) Awards Ceremony in Toronto, Sault Ste. Marie's PUC Distribution Inc. (PUC) was honoured with the Innovation Excellence Award for its groundbreaking Sault Smart Grid project, the first of its kind in Canada. The Sault Smart Grid integrates cutting-edge technologies such as distribution automation, dynamic voltage regulation, and optimization of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), ensuring grid reliability while meeting the growing demand for high-quality power.
Util-Assist played a supporting role in PUC’s smart grid project success by providing expert project guidance and oversight, particularly in AMI-related tasks, dynamic voltage regulation (DVR) voltage polling, and outage management system (OMS)/AMI integration and configuration.
Since its launch in November 2023, the Sault Smart Grid has shown significant benefits, including a 2.7% energy savings, improved outage communications, and increased reliability for customers, while also contributing to an annual reduction of approximately 2,800 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
With a deep understanding of the latest smart grid technologies, Util-Assist’s consultants can help unlock the full potential of AMI. Find out more.
