GGUSD Offers Free Full-Day TK for All Four-Year-Olds

DID YOU KNOW? GGUSD provides FREE full-day transitional kindergarten (TK) to all children who are four years old or will turn four by September 1! Children thrive in our TK program with small class sizes and high-quality teachers and full-time instructional aides who provide a caring classroom environment for children to develop early literacy and kindergarten readiness skills!


GGUSD is one of only a few districts in Orange County offering free full-day Transitional Kindergarten to children who are four years old or will turn four by September 1, 2024. Children born between 09/02/2019 and 09/01/2020 are eligible to enroll in GGUSD’s outstanding TK program for the 2024-2025 school year!

Bolsa Student Earns Full Ride to Stanford

CONGRATULATIONS!! GGUSD students are definitely goal-getters! Bolsa Grande student Adrian Pineda earned a FULL RIDE scholarship to Stanford University! We're so proud of this exceptional student and cannot wait to see what he achieves next on his path to lifelong success! (Goal 3) #GGUSDPride #GGUSDGoalGetters

Stanley Students Shine in Performance of Aladdin

Stanley Elementary School transformed into a whole new world as its incredibly talented students took us on a magical carpet ride with their stunning production of Disney's Aladdin! As part of the Disney Musicals in Schools program, these young stars shone brightly, delivering performances that were nothing short of spectacular. This program fosters student well-being, creates a sense of belonging, increases student confidence, and strengthens students' performing arts skills (Goal 1 and 3)!

Alamitos Students Explore Future Career Paths

Alamitos Intermediate School welcomed 30 guest speakers (including some Alamitos alumni) from a wide range of industries to share their professional journeys for the school's Condor Career Day! The guest speakers gave students an inside look into their careers and inspired students on their path to lifelong success (Goal 3). #GGUSDPride #GGUSDGoalGettters

Board of Education Celebrates Student and Staff Successes

This week, the Board of Education had a grand celebration honoring the incredibly talented student artists who won top awards in our First Impressions Art Show!

The Board of Education also recognized Murdy Elementary School for the success of the Gratitude Project spearheaded by teacher Valerie Del Carlo to empower sixth graders to explore gratitude in the aftermath of life's hardest struggles through interviews, writing and art.

GGUSD's Board of Education also recognized the district's fantastic bus drivers for their recent success in the Bus Roadeo where school bus drivers from across California compete in a series of safe driving competitions! GGUSD school bus drivers showed off their exceptional safe driving skills bringing home several awards, including: Jose Navarro Yepez with the Top Sweepstakes Award; Rosa Rosas with Third Place; one of our newest drivers Efren Verduzco won First Place Novice; two of our three driver teams won 2nd and 3rd place and GGUSD won for Best Represented! Kudos to Bus Driver Instructor Gil Morales for leading the OC Driver Trainers Advisory Council (DTAC) as the president and putting on a fantastic competition.

CAC Hosts Ceremony to Celebrate Student Success

Our Community Advisory Committee for Special Education hosted a beautiful Student Recognition Awards event at the Garden Grove Community Center this week to celebrate the tremendous academic and personal growth of our Special Education students (Goal 1 and 2). GGUSD has an outstanding Special Education program with caring staff who consistently support student success (Goal 3). Kudos to our awesome CAC parent volunteers who worked with our Special Education Department to plan this celebration.


AVID Scholars Earn College Scholarships

Eighteen outstanding AVID seniors from GGUSD secured over $156,000 in college scholarships! This phenomenal achievement took center stage at the Orange County Department of Education 2024 AVID Senior Standout Recognition and Scholarship Presentation on Monday! GGUSD is so proud of our AVID Senior Standouts! Kudos to GGHS student Henry Vu who was selected to deliver opening remarks at this prestigious event! GGUSD is proud to be a leader in college readiness (Goal 3) due in large part to the widespread implementation of AVID across the district.

GGUSD Invites All Families to Choose Wellness Fair and Workshops

GGUSD invites all families and students to its Choose Wellness Education and Resource Fair on Thursday, May 2nd from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Fitz Intermediate Language Academy, 4600 W. McFadden Street in Santa Ana. This FREE event features student performances, wellness resources, health screenings, giveaways, food and the opportunity to attend workshops designed to help families support their child’s mental health and well-being.


Parent workshops are offered at 5:30 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. and include:

  • Bullying Prevention and Intervention for Parents and Caregivers (presented by Western Youth Services)
  • How to Support Your Child’s Mental Health as They Grow (presented by CHOC)
  • Engaging with your Child in a Digital Era (presented by GGUSD social workers)
  • Preventing Risky Behaviors in Children (presented by Project Kinship)
  • Youth Suicide Prevention (presented by Didi Hirsch)
  • What Parents Need to Know about Gangs and Kids (presented by GRIP)


The event also includes a workshop for fifth through twelfth grade students from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. called “How to be an Upstander,” which teaches students how to stand up to bullying.


Interpretation in Spanish, Vietnamese and Korean will be offered and childcare for children ages 2-10 will be provided. Families can RSVP to attend at http://www.ggusd.us/choosewellnessrsvp



For those who cannot attend, both Bullying Prevention and How to Support Your Child’s Mental Health as they Grow will be offered online via Zoom.
