Cafe News . . .

PALNV was able to save 65 cats from the streets during the month of April! We had almost 350 appointments in the cafe and 29 cats found their forever homes! There are currently 24 cats and 12 kittens in the cafe and 53 cats/kittens in foster homes.

Donations from our wish lists at Amazon and Chewy continue to be much appreciated! As you can see, kitten season is here! The kitten room in the cafe is full and there are more on the way. We can't wait to help find forever families for each and every one!

Cafe Cat of the Month

Kitty

PALNV and Rescued Treasures Cat Cafe is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Although we do raise funds through cafe admission and adoptions, we also rely on the generosity of others to help with our mission of saving neighborhood cats. Food, litter, supplies, vet visits and medical bills are all just part of what it takes to help these kitties. If you would like to help support our mission, please visit our website for our wish lists and other ways to donate. Thank you!!

National Pet Month

National Pet Month is observed in May annually in the United States and April in the United Kingdom. There are plenty of ways we, as pet owners, can celebrate pet month.

  • Learn More About Your Cats - The more you know and understand about your cats, the better cat parent you can be.
  • Book a Photoshoot With Your Cat -You can bring the photographer to you and take photos where they feel safe, in the comfort of their homes.
  • Spoil Your Kitty - The more enrichment you can provide your pet, the happier they’ll be.
  • Invest in Pet Insurance - If your kitty falls ill or requires surgery, it can make the difference between getting your pet the help they need and not being able to afford it.
  • Volunteer at your local pet shelter or animal rescue.
  • Adopt a New Cat - Make sure you have the means available to provide for another pet!
  • Donate - Donations to your local animal shelter or rescue are always needed and appreciated.

Sometimes, we need a reminder to show our pets just how much we care for them!

Does Your Cat Have a Paw-Preference?

Can cats be left or right-handed? Scientists have recently discovered that many pets can show a preference for their right or left paw while walking down stairs, reaching for food or stepping over objects. They say that these preferences also differ by sex, much like how for us humans, left-handedness is more common with men than with women.

Male cats tend to prefer their left paws while females are more likely to be righties!

Deborah Wells, a psychologist at Queen's University Belfast, says that they think the difference is likely to be linked to sex hormones, although researchers don't know why or how this happens as of yet.

These results can also help researchers gain more insight into how cats deal with stress. If you would like to know if your feline friend is a lefty or a righty, just be observant. Watch them and see which paw they use first going up or down the stairs or into their litter box. Over time you should notice if they have a paw preference (although not all cats have one!).
