REMINDER: There is no school on Friday, April 19th for a DPS planning day.

Please also note that there is no school on Monday, May 6th for a UPark specific planning day. This day is for UPark teachers to participate in professional learning and is different from the all DPS days.

Principal

This past Monday we had a really wonderful time viewing the solar eclipse and participating in learning around this amazing natural phenomenon! Thank you so much to all our family volunteers that spent time running the activities so our students could gain extra knowledge and insight around the eclipse. We also want to send a special shout out to Ms. Sarah Smith (3rd grade) and Ms. Rhonda Rau (4th grade), who secured a special science grant to purchase our school all the materials needed for this experience. Thank you to everyone for making this day so special!

Thank you,

Eric Atonna

UPark Staff Updates

We are excited to announce that Katie Riddle has been hired as official Office Support starting next school year! With Cassie moving into the art teacher role we are fortunate to have another teammate ready to step into the office. Katie has been doing a great job getting prepared for office life this year and we can't wait for her to transition full time in August!

We also want you to save the date for a celebration! Patricia is retiring and we are excited to send her off with some recognition! Please join the UPark social committee, staff and PTA on May 15th after school in the gym for treats and fun.

Glendale Raptors Rugby Team

This week, our PE classes had the pleasure of hosting the Glendale Raptors Rugby team, who shared their passion and expertise with our students. We are incredibly grateful for this opportunity. If your child found this experience exciting and wants to delve deeper into the world of rugby by joining a team, please refer to this flyer for more information. Financial assistance is available.

5th Grade Shakespeare Night

All 5th Grade Students and Families, please join us for Shakespeare Night on Thursday, April 18th! The live auditorium performance schedule will be as follows:

5:00-5:45 p.m. Ms. Kull's Class (arrive 4:30)

5:45-6:30 p.m. Ms. McMahon's Class (arrive 5:15)

  • Enter through the staff parking lot doors on East Iliff Avenue at arrival time.
  • Audience members wait in the gym until it is announced that the auditorium house is open for seating.
  • Students meet families in the office hallway after changing out of costume.
  • Families exit through the main doors on South Saint Paul Street.

All students should make themselves available from 5:00-6:30 that evening so that we have understudies if we need to call on them, as both classes will be performing Macbeth. All costumes will be provided, but please wear plain black socks (no shoes on stage during the performances.)

Mrs. Ludwig is looking for two volunteers to hand out programs and direct traffic in the building. Please email her if you are able to help: callie_ludwig@dpsk12.net

3rd and Final BESS Screening of the School Year

The FINAL window for the parent-report BESS screener opens this Saturday, March 16 and the window will close on April 26. The BESS is U-Park’s school-wide social emotional screener. There have been 2 windows prior to this one (Fall and Winter) so this is the 3rd and final time of the year we will ask you to fill the form out for your student.

Parents of ALL students (K-5) can and should fill this out for their student. It only takes a few minutes and all you need is your student’s birthday and ID number (lunch number). Social Emotional learning is so important to us at UPark and we want to know how your child is doing at home. All teachers will be completing this for their students the week before Spring Break. Student self-report (only grades 3-5) will also occur the week before Spring Break.

Please follow the link below to get to the Review360 Platform and fill it out for your child:

https://review360connect.com/Prod/denverpublicschools/parent

Please reach out to Jordan McElligott (jordan_mcelligott@dpsk12.net or 720-424-3458) with questions or to request your student’s report.

UPark Owl Ticket Students

Congratulations to this week's Owl Ticket students! They were recognized by their teachers for above and beyond positive behavior.

Owl Tickets are given to students for going above and beyond in one of our five core values: caring, cooperation, responsibility, respect and joy. Owl Tickets focus on the school's trait of the month, give students a chance to participate in the weekly "Owl Tickets" photo and will be posted on the "UPARK" letters in our main hallway.
