4-Week Anti-Racism Challenge (ARC)
WEEK 3: April 19 - 25, 2024
This is your own personal journey. To participate, we ask that you complete at least 3 activities this week. You can use the ARC Tracking tool below to monitor your progress. Choose from of the following:
ATTEND: Join us on April 24 at 6:00 p.m. at the Earth and Spirit Center for a free Community Listening Session with Dr. Catherine Fosl, one of the lead authors of the disturbing report on policing patterns in Louisville’s history. “History of Policing in Louisville: A Fact-Finding Report on Institutional Harms.” The report on policing history helps us understand how we got where we are—and hopefully will spur discussions and action to move us forward. With the Department of Justice now drafting the Consent Decree, this is a chance for Louisville to acknowledge our troubling history and use this moment to propel us into real and sustained change. We hope you can join us!

*We recently had the pleasure of visiting ElderServe where Tim Findley, Jr is CEO. What great work they are doing! The day we visited, the activity, for mostly senior women, was to make Derby hats–and they were beautiful. Elderserve’s motto is “To Empower Older Adults to Live Independently with Dignity,” something we all hope for. If you can’t attend the Gala, please consider volunteering or donating here: Contribute
LEARN / WATCH: You may remember the racist episode a few years ago when Black birder Christian Cooper asked a white woman in Central Park to leash her dog per Park regulations. She called the police, saying to him, “I’m going to tell them there’s an African American man threatening my life.” He filmed the ugly encounter on his cell phone. Long story short, he is now narrating a beautiful series on birds for National Geographic. She lost her job and her lawsuit to be reinstated. Read about it here.
LISTEN / LEARN: Originally written by Paul McCartney amid the 1960s civil rights movement in the United States, “Blackbird” was inspired by the Little Rock Nine, a group of Black students who were the first to desegregate schools in late 1950s Arkansas.
