Perinatal Transmission of HIV Can Lead to Cognitive Deficits

Perinatal transmission of HIV to newborns is associated with serious cognitive deficits as children grow older, according to a detailed analysis of 35 studies conducted by Georgetown University Medical Center neuroscientists. Xiong Jiang, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Neuroscience, was senior author of the publication and Sophia Damani (NHS’21, M’25) led the meta-analysis.

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Diversity, Equity and Inclusion department selected the School of Nursing’s Edilma L. Yearwood, PhD, PMHCNS-BC, FAAN, to serve as a chair of the AACN Diversity Position Statement Revision Committee. The AACN works to establish quality standards for nursing education and promotes public support for professional nursing education, research and practice.

Mark Your Calendar: Upcoming Workshop on Applying for Federal Grants in Social Sciences and the Humanities

On May 14, Georgetown’s Joint Office of Research Administration (JORA) will host an introduction to identifying opportunities for federal funding and using the resources and services of the university to generate successful grant applications. While the workshop will focus on opportunities in social sciences and the humanities, all faculty are welcome. The workshop will take place at 11:00 a.m. in Regents 109 and lunch will be served. Georgetown's Center for Health Equity announces the second round of RADIANCE Grants (Respect, Advocacy, Diversity, Inclusion, ANti-racism, Collaboration, Equity) in collaboration with the Office of Faculty and Academic Affairs. RADIANCE Grants aim to contribute to community engagement that center a culture of respect, inclusion and belonging by promoting advocacy, diversity, anti-racism and equity. Apply by May 31, 11:59 p.m. The next information session is April 30.
