Jon Wilson, Executive Director of AMOR, is a current member of our Leadership Reading Group. As part of his facilitation opportunity, he contacted Vicki Croke, author of his chosen book Elephant Company, to ask her for her insights, and lessons learned about leadership in the making of this book. Ms. Croke responded "that working on this book felt like a pretty magical gift" and went on to share many pieces of wisdom from the experience.

She contrasted the difference in leadership between male bulls and female elephants. She also spoke of community leadership and that being "nice" wasn't a way to lead, that is necessary to earn one's trust" to be

an effective leader. She also shared insights on "authority without being a bully" and the role of dominance in leadership. Other comments included risk taking, safety, confidence and growing leadership over time.

Thanks to Jon for exercising leadership by reaching out to the author to infuse her perspectives into our leadership discussion. Her comments added a richness to our exploration of leadership and all she asked for in return was a group photo, which is shown here!
