Over 160 DCCA members and residents attended our October meeting at the Congressional Club to hear about our neighborhood from authors of the new book Sixteenth Street Avenue of Ambitions, John DeFerrari and Peter Sefton. In addition to a lively presentation, some attendees toured the club and learned about its rich history.

Our meetings are held on the first Monday of the month. Save the date for the next meeting

WHEN: Monday, November 6th at 7:00 PM

WHERE: Chastleton Ballroom

WHAT: The topic for the November meeting is the redevelopment of the city-owned property at 1617 U Street, the current site of the Police and Fire Stations, and the upcoming hearing on rezoning this property. See the resolution passed at the June DCCA membership meeting on this project.

WHO: DCCA Members and neighbors who have not yet joined - we are opening the meeting so you can learn about and join our Citizens Community Association

Boo! Little Goblins Parade

The 12th Annual Little Goblins Parade will be hosted this year at Garrison Elementary School because of the renovations at Stead Park. Families will meet at Garrison and parade around the perimeter of the school and then take to the track around the field for a variety of festivities, treats and entertainment.
 
DCCA is proud to be a sponsor of this Logan/Dupont event. Please spread the word to Dupont families. Come and enjoy the event even if you don’t have costumed kids in tow and join DCCA at our table to help give out Halloween favors.
Chance to Tour the White House Gardens this Weekend
The White House is offering a garden tour this weekend - a special event that only happens twice a year!

Visionboard this - you in your favorite fall outfit, steaming coffee in hand, strolling from Dupont down to the White House to smell the roses - that's life in the Nation's Capital! To visit you need to get a free, timed ticket which will be handed out on a first come first serve basis at the Visitor Center on Saturday or Sunday. Click here for more details.

An apt event for the Halloween season, “The Exorcist’s Power,” is about the making of a legendary film and the rise of its demon spawn, with David Wilt, professorial lecturer in film studies at George Washington University.

10th Annual Immigration Film Festival

The Immigration Film Fest is hosted by a volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to providing a platform for immigrants and refugees in the DMV to share their skills and stories. This year they are bringing a hybrid film festival with in-person and virtual screenings. The in-person screenings include nearby DCJCC and MLK Jr Library locations. Heurich House Museum

The Heurich House Museum and DC’s Historic Preservation Office are collaborating for for History in a Bottle: How Historic German Immigrants Used Beer to Claim Citizenship in Washington, DC. Learn about late 19th - early 20th century glass beer, liquor, and soda/mineral water bottles, growlers, tankards, stemware, and tavern/taproom/beer garden tobacco pipes and spittoons artifacts from the DC HPO collection. Blood donations are said to be urgently needed by the Red Cross. First Baptist Church of Washington, D.C., is hosting a blood drive with the American Red Cross in the church fellowship hall. To make an appointment, visit RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS. The Red Cross is offering gift card incentives to promote participation.
DC Mid-Century Homes Online Tour
The Office of Planning Historic Preservation Office launched an online tour of Mid-Century Modern residences in DC. The tour includes eight neighborhood clusters, each of which has a collection of homes in the Mid-Century Modern aesthetic. To explore the homes and neighborhoods click here.
