THE CTC ACADEMY CALENDAR UPDATES

2023/2024 School Year, Fair Lawn and Oakland campuses:

The June 2024 calendar was amended to accommodate the unused snow days:

June 18, 2024: Half-day schedule for students, full-day schedule for staff

June 19, 2024: Half-day schedule for students, full-day schedule for staff

June 20, 2024: Half-day schedule for students, half-day schedule for staff (after the last student leaves the building)

June 21 - July 5, 2024: CTC Closed

July 8, 2024: Extended School Year (ESY) begins

BEYOND GRADUATION PROJECT

Are you thinking about a day program for your son or daughter after graduation? HERE's a link to an overview of the day programs in Northern New Jersey that are able to support individuals with medical complexity, as well as a map of their locations. Thanks to CTC parent Don Lombardo for creating the map!

The spreadsheet is updated regularly by the Beyond Graduation Project, and CTC parents are encouraged to share what they learn about the programs so that the information is as up-to-date as possible.

Also, please note that for all CTC families who have a child nearing or in the process of transitioning into adulthood, CTC offers support and guidance throughout this process. The Oakland School Social Worker, Kimberly Martiak, is available to help with many topics including guardianship, applying for SSI, DDD, preparing for the NJ CAT, choosing a support coordinator and discussing options for post-21 planning. By telling their own truth about the challenges, frustrations, joys, and disappointments, they are showing the community around them that their voice and the lives of those they love are important - and their experiences are universal.

Through honest, unvarnished storytelling they help to create connections, deepen the public’s understanding of the disability experience, and allow people with disabilities to see themselves in the world and know that their lives matter.

Join us as four family members describe how sharing their lived experiences - through books and articles, podcasts, and script writing - connects people in unexpected ways, and changes the world for the better.

Forget about brackets and buzzer-beaters, CTC Academy's version of March Madness is a whole new ball game! Here's a glimpse into the enjoyment that unfolds when you mix basketball with a bunch of spirited students!

March is Developmental Disabilities Month and to celebrate CTC Academy designated March 25th as our day to share and educate each other about developmental disabilities. This includes the disabilities that our CTC students live with, as well as other kinds of disabilities that our staff and students may be familiar with. We encouraged staff and students to wear either CTC Apparel or the apparel of any other organization that serves people with disabilities, for example Angelman Syndrome Foundation, Brain Injury Association, Rare Disease Foundation, Special Olympics, Cerebral Palsy Foundation and The Epilepsy Foundation. Thank you to all who participated!
