What's On My Mind

Comprehensive Plan Volunteers - The Select Board is seeking volunteers for its 12-person Comprehensive Plan Steering Group. The group will advise the consultant and town staff as the Town of Brookline embarks on developing its first comprehensive plan in nearly 20 years.

Annual Town Election - Brookline's annual election is Tuesday, May 7. The League of Women Voters has published a voters guide that includes information about each candidate. The guide is also available based on your address. Sample ballots are available on the Town Clerk's website.


My Candidate Endorsements - I have endorsed the following candidates that are in competitive races:


Select Board: There are 2 open seats


  • Bernard Greene - Bernard is the most experienced member of the Select Board and its current Chair. Serving with Bernard, I find him to be collaborative, thoughtful, and a steady and pragmatic leader. We need Bernard's experience on the Select Board. www.bernardgreene.org


School Committee: There are 3 open seats


  • Jesse Hefter - Jesse is an analytical, articulate, and caring person with a record of serving our community. Jesse is committed to advocating for every student and every school. www.jesseforbrookline.com
  • Sarah Moghtader - Sarah has been serving effectively on the School Committee after being caucused in earlier this year. As a former Brookline teacher, she is focused on the classroom, teachers and supporting students. www.moghtader4brookline.com
  • Carolyn Thall - Carolyn is a clear and independent thinker who fully understands how both the Town and Schools function and how their budgets work and interact. We need Carolyn's thoughtful and deliberate approach to keep our schools high performing. www.carolynthall.com


Housing Authority: There is 1 open seat


  • Kimberley Richardson - As a resident of public housing, Kimberley will provide a unique and essential perspective to the Commission on the needs and experiences of public housing residents. www.kimberley4brookline.com


Precinct 1 Town Meeting: There are 5 three-year seats and 1 one-year seat open.


  • 3 Year Seats - Neil Gordon, Katherine Ingraham, Louise King, Sarah Moghtader, Robert Schoen
  • 1 Year Seat - Bradford Kimball

Last Meeting - Tuesday, April 16 @5PM

FY25 Building Department Budget was presented by Building Commissioner, Dan Bennett and discussed by the board.


FY25 Health and Human Services Department Budget was presented by Director of Public Heath and Human Services, Sigalle Reiss and discussed by the board.


Warrant Article 8 - The board reviewed, discussed and voted to recommend favorable action to Town Meeting on Article 8 which would establish a revolving fund for vaccines.


Warrant Article 4 - the board reviewed, discussed and voted to recommend no action to Town Meeting on authorizing a close-out report/bond authorization rescission.


Question of calling a Special Town Meeting - The board discussed and voted to call a second Special Town Meeting and to insert in the Warrant, Article 1 which seeks to remove all positions in the police department of the Town of Brookline from the provisions of the Commonwealth’s civil service laws.

Miscellaneous - Approval of miscellaneous items, licenses, vouchers, and contracts.


Review FY25 Departmental Budgets for the Department of Public Works, Parks and Open Space, and Water and Sewer.

 

Newbury Site Tree Easement - Question of approving and executing an easement between 123 Fisher Avenue, Owner, LLC, and the Town of Brookline for a 6,920 sf easement on Fisher Avenue providing for protection and maintenance of 6 trees, and to delegate to the Town Administrator the ability to execute on the Town's behalf.

 

Language Access Policy - Approval of the Language Access Policy as revised by the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Community Relations

 

CDBG Advisory Committee Recommendations - Ewana Lindo-Smith, Community Development Administrator, will provide an update on the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) recommendations as required by HUD as part of their Annual Action Plan.


Board and Commissions Interviews - Chris Mutty (CV) will interview for appointment to the Small Business Development Committee.
