A Message from our Founder & Presidents
As we embrace the cheerful spirit of spring and bask in the warmer days ahead, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to our incredible community.
Your ongoing support fuels our mission to rescue and find loving homes for Golden Retrievers in need. Your dedication as volunteers and fosters is truly remarkable, and it's because of your generosity that we're able to make such a profound impact.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for being the driving force behind Adopt a Golden Atlanta. Let's welcome spring with open arms and continue making a positive impact on the lives of these dogs.
With heartfelt thanks,
Lauren and Patti

Orphan of the Month: Pongo
| |
My family gave me up to AGA so I could find a new home. I am just too energetic for them. Anyone carrying a ball or a toy is my best friend! I know my house manners, and I am just 18 months old and I am a big guy at 66 pounds! I love to eat socks (don’t ask why) and to pull the stuffing out of toys. Once I ate a certain kind of dog food and it got stuck in my insides. Ugh, that was not fun! The vet said I was a handsome boy but a little jittery on my first trip there. The second trip was better! I know how to stay in a crate (certainly not a fun place) and like the company of older kids. Is there a family out there who can keep up with me, so I have lots of activity and can use up some of my energy?
I am waiting to meet you! Come see me! Pongo

Check Your Dog Once A Month on the 14th!
It is important that you start your fight against canine cancer and any other health issue from the day you bring your dog home.
Facts about Cancer in Dogs
Did you know that 1 in 3 dogs will be diagnosed with cancer? 50% of those dogs will die from cancer. In humans, there are 1.5 million new cases of cancer each year, but in dogs, there are 6 million new cases of cancer diagnosed each year. Dog cancer prevention is key to a long healthy life with your dog.
| |
Checking your dog once a month for lumps and bumps or any abnormal behavior is key in the prevention of any health issue with your dog. We recommend doing it on the 14th of every month. Checking your dog will be a great little bonding time with your dog. If you are starting with a young dog, this time will also prepare them for their future vet wellness visits.
Now how exactly do you do this?
Start at their nose and work all the way to their tail. Make sure you are in a familiar, low-key environment where you and your pet can do this without distraction. In other words, not during dinner time or when you expect the mailman to be buzzing by the house.
