This February, celebrate Black History Month at Orangeville Public Library and learn about the lives, contributions and achievements of Black Canadians. We invite you to participate in library and community events, and discover more about black culture and contributions through a variety of books at the library.
For King and Country: The Story of No. 2 Construction Battalion
Thursday, February 13, 7 p.m., Mill Library
Join us for an inspiring evening with Kevin Junor, MMM, OOnt, CD, retired captain and Order of Ontario recipient, in partnership with the Dufferin County Canadian Black Association. This event will highlight No. 2 Construction Battalion – the first and only all-Black battalion in Canadian military history – sharing the stories of Black veterans and their lasting impact on the nation.

DCCBA Annual Black History Month Event
Saturday, March 1, 5 p.m., Theatre Orangeville
The Dufferin County Canadian Black Association (DCCBA) Annual Black History Month Event is an evening dedicated to honouring Black legacy, leadership, and contributions to Canadian history. This inspiring event will feature distinguished speakers, and cultural performances, fostering unity and reflection on the impact of Black Canadians.
Tickets are $20.00 and are now available. Enjoy a curated reception in the Atrium after the event, catered by Soulyve Catering.
Presented in collaboration with The Town of Orangeville, Orangeville Public Library, Theatre Orangeville, Town of Shelburne, Town of Shelburne DEI and ICCD.

Join Bethell Hospice and the Orangeville Public Library as we read and discuss books that explore themes of life, love and loss.
Our first book of the year is an oldie but a goodie – "Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail" by Cheryl Strayed. A Goodreads Choice Award Winner for Readers' Favorite Memoir & Autobiography (2012)

Saturday, March 22, 2 p.m. Mill Library
Join us for a special Experts in the Library presentation featuring Dr. Samra Zafar. In "Unconditional: Break through past limits to transform your future", Samra shares everything she has learned, as a woman, physician and mother, about unlearning the harmful beliefs we store deep within ourselves.
Samra Zafar is an award-winning, internationally renowned speaker, physician, author and educator. She has been recognized among the Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada, the Top 25 Most Inspirational Women in Canada, and the Top 25 Canadian Immigrants. After Hours Write Club - Every other Tuesday, 7 - 8:30 p.m., Mill Library - The After Hours Write Club is a writing workshop facilitated by local author Anthony Carnovale. Orange thREADs - Tuesday, February 18, 1 p.m., Mill Library - Share your passion for reading and all things fibre arts. Join this friendly group at the Mill Library in the Community Livingroom for an afternoon of conversation and connection. New members are always welcome.

Books and Loose Parts
Wednesday, February 12, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Explore the amazing world of loose parts inspired by children's stories with Alyson Pell from The Sunflower School. This month's program will take inspiration from "Where to Hide a Star" by Oliver Jeffers.
Recomended for ages 2.5 to 6 years with a parent/caregiver. This is a drop in program.

Musical Storytime 10:30 a.m.
February 18 (Alder) and February 20 (Mill)
Erin will host a special guest for a musical storytime. Mallory, from Musical Munchkins, will have everyone singing and moving to the beat.
Musical Munchkins is a local music program, where children and their grownups share songs, movement, rhyme and instrument play.
Recommended for ages 5 and under. This is a drop in program.

After School Club
Monday, February 24, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Join Shelley at the Mill Library for another fun STEM activity. Earthquakes - can your marshmallow structure withstand the jello earthquake?
The After School Club is a monthly program for children ages 7 to 12. No registration is required. Please note, guardians of children 9 and under must remain in the library for the duration of the program. Upcoming date: Monday, March 31

March Break Fun
March 10 to 14
A full week of activities are planned for March Break. Five days of ticketed Entertainment Shows starting at 10 a.m. (Orangeville District Secondary School) and free in-library programs at the Mill Library at 2 p.m.
Ticket sales and afternoon program registration will be available starting on Monday, February 10.

Social Justice Club, Mill Library
Every Wednesday, runs until March 5, 4 to 5:30 p.m.
The Social Justice Club is a chance for children ages 7 to 12 to connect with one another and discuss issues facing our society (i.e. poverty, bullying, climate change, inequity), with the goal of building kind communities where everyone feels a sense of belonging. The group meets weekly at the Mill Library. Please register to attend. Learn more about this program.

Teens at the Library
Friday, February 14, 4 p.m. - Teen Advisory Group (TAG) meets in the Alder Library. Help plan a Teen trivia program to be held during March Break. Contact teens@orangeville.ca for more information. The Trivia Night will be held on Friday, March 14, 7 p.m., Mill Library. Registration will open February 10.
Friday, February 28, 4 p.m. - Teen Chronicles book club meets in the Alder Library.
Mark your calendar - The March TAG meeting will be on Friday, March 7 (one week earlier!).

Books are just the beginning | |
Holiday Closures - Both locations are closed on Sunday, February 16 and the Mill Library is closed on Family Day, Monday, February 17. The Alder Library is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Family Day.
Library Board Meeting - The next meeting of the Library Board is on Wednesday, February 26, 5 p.m. at the Mill Library.
Print from Anywhere - We have implemented Princh, a new printing solution, making it possible to easily and securely print from a mobile phone, tablet, or laptop, both remotely and at the library. Printing requests are kept for 24 hours or until printed. Pages are not printed until you arrive to pick them up. Learn more
