FROM THE RECTOR

At the announcements during our wonderful Easter Sunday celebration, I quipped "We do this every Sunday." That was a little bit of a joke, but more deeply it is also true. Every Sunday we proclaim the dying and rising of Jesus Christ. Every day we live in the light of the resurrection, growing in faith and serving Jesus in our neighbors. All that we do is shaped and made possible by the events we remembered and into which we entered last week. In a very real sense, every Sunday is a celebration of Easter, and every day is an effort to live by the truth of Easter. We did a lot of special stuff last week, but as we move through the fifty days of the Easter season, we are not going back to normal as if Holy Week can be put tidily away for another year. We are moving forward clothed in the reminder of how extraordinary each Sunday and each day is.

I want to thank again the many people who made our Holy Week and Easter Sunday possible. These include Keith Shafer and the choir, Catherine Stuckey and the altar and linen guilds, Laurie Montgomery, Barbara Register, and the flower guild, Meg and Donald Horton and the acolytes, Carolyn Dolen and the Vergers, Lay Eucharistic Ministers, and Lectors, Coleman Graham and the Grandmothers Guild of nursery workers, Nick Uros, Rex Teeslink, and the ushers, Summer Bell and the greeters, Bill and Mary Lynn Ford, Ian McQueen, Claiborne Porubsky, and the hospitality team, Kim Butler, Kitty Gordon, Elizabeth Lindroth, and the Children and Youth Formation teams, Wright Montgomery and the Audio-visual team, Elisabeth Price and the office staff and sextons, our Assisting Priests the Reverends Erwin Veale and Bill Dolen, all y'all who came to church or prayed along from home, and all the people I have forgotten to mention here.

Serve at Field Day at Hornsby Elementary

Friday, April 19, 9-3 PM

CALLING ALL WANNABE JOCKS AND FRUSTRATED REFS. W. S. Hornsby Elementary School Needs You!

Field Day is scheduled for Friday, April 19, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and Ms. Jacquelyn Williams, physical education teacher, needs 15 volunteers to help with setup and assist with running a variety of games and races. If you thought adolescent soccer games were a challenge, just wait until you help a group of second and third graders run sack races. Yep, they fall down, and they can’t get up (without your help). This will be the most fun you will have had since you were that third grader lying on the ground in a burlap bag.

Questions? Email Barbara Coleman or call at 706-495-1884.

The Sunday Forum New Series

Being Salt and Light

Beginning Sunday, April 21

Mother Kimberly leads a new series in our Sunday Forum beginning April 21, 9:30 am. What do the Holy Scriptures tell us about being salt and light? How can Christians add “seasoning” to a world that seems to already have its own flavor? How can Christians illuminate spaces that seem to embrace the status quo? How can a simple conversation and a way of being become a spark that ignites a positive exchange and leaves people wanting more? Let us walk together, share stories, and discover how our daily living can become liberating ways that will leave people wanting more.

From March 17th until the end of April, we will have our turquoise and white flowered boxes in Tyler Hall and the Narthex. We will collect gently used bras; new bras and underwear; and feminine menstrual products for the following agencies: Children Protective Services, Hope House, I-Care, Safe Homes, and Salvation Army Shelters.
