Bereishit, Genesis, the first book of the Torah, ends with the portion, Vayechi, meaning "he lived." Jacob's life in Egypt proves that God-centered living counteracts evil forces that surround us. His legacy reaches far beyond his 147 years, allowing us to duplicate his success now in a time when growing demonic forces and dire prognostications capture our attention and tempt us to mount self limiting opposition to the evil around us. Providence proves to be the reliable reality that protects and saves when we think, say and act in accordance with life affirming, Torah principles provided by Jacob's God.
