D.C. developer moving forward with 300-unit apartment project in Lawrenceville


A little more than two years after buying a nearly 2.5-acre site a short walk from Butler Street, Washington, D.C.-based Dalian Development is moving forward on a redevelopment proposal for the Lawrenceville site.


Officials for the company declined to comment as it works toward its first meetings with the community in the coming weeks.

Pennsylvania American Water sets $34M water main replacement project


Pennsylvania American Water is spending $34 million to replace three miles of water main on Becks Run Road in Baldwin Borough, work that will begin June 3 and result in detours along the road during the working hours.


The work will involve putting in two 42-inch water mains along the road that bring water from the Monongahela River to the Hays Mine Treatment plant for 137,000 customers of the utility.


There will be a two-mile construction zone between Carson Street and East Agnew Road where there will be no through traffic allowed between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and then 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays...Read More

Trader Joe's eyeing locations in the Strip District


Pittsburgh’s Strip District is famous for sandwiches stuffed with meat, french fries and coleslaw, the ethnic markets selling everything from prosciutto to baklava, and street vendors hawking chicken on the stick.


It soon may be adding to the lineup — plastic lobsters and Hawaiian shirts.

First building at Diamond Ridge in Moon Township is completed


A new office building, a relatively rare phenomenon in the wake of the pandemic, is now completed along the Parkway West.


NAI Burns Scalo recently received an occupancy permit for the first of three buildings in the works as part of the Diamond Ridge plan in Moon Township. The first building totals 172,000 square feet, and in March the company announced its first tenant for the complex — insurance broker AssuredPartners, taking 19,000 square feet.

Phipps Conservatory acquires former Irish Centre property in Squirrel Hill


Eight months after making a surprise bid for the former Irish Centre in Squirrel Hill during a battle over its redevelopment, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens has secured the property.


Phipps announced Monday that it has reached an agreement to acquire the site at 6886 Forward Ave. bordering Frick Park. It paid $760,000 for the property, spokesman Joe Reed said.

Some Downtown Pittsburgh restaurateurs raise concerns about proposed craft beer and wine store


The owner of a new craft beer and wine store to open on Sixth Street in Downtown says that it will be an asset to the city. But some neighbors of the venture aren’t toasting its arrival.


Bridges and Bottles will be taking a 3,500-square-foot space at street level in the Roosevelt Building in the heart of the Sixth Street restaurant corridor.
