The Farm Bill is MOO-ving

In case you missed it - the House and Senate have both taken action on the Farm Bill this month!

The House released their version of the Farm Bill, the Food, Farm, and National Security Act (H.R.8467), which recently passed the full House Agriculture Committee and will later move to the full House for a vote. See NFFC's initial response to the House legislation here.

The Senate has yet to release full text of their version of the Farm Bill, the Rural Prosperity and Food Security Act, but shared a detailed summary. NFFC anticipates the full release of the Senate bill within the next few months.

You (Yes, YOU!) Can Influence Federal Policy!

One thing is clear - this Farm Bill is our chance to establish the impactful policies that farmers, ranchers, and rural communities need. We need your help to urge Congress to include the transformative policies that NFFC members have long called for!

News From the Field

NFFC Endorses Two New Bills

NFFC has endorsed two new bills this legislative session: The Future of Water Act, and the HEIRS Property Act.

The Future of Water Act ( S.4188, H.R.8096) amends the Commodity Exchange Act to prohibit the trading of water and water rights in commodity futures contracts. Water rights are tied to farmland, and are vulnerable to price manipulation and speculative corporate investment. Read more here.

The Heirs Education and Investment to Resolve Succession (HEIRS) of Property Act (H.R. 8198) strengthens existing legal services that help families resolve heirs’ property issues so that they can start using their land for agriculture production, and also creates additional opportunities for nonprofits to provide pro-bono services to heirs property owners.
