Huckleberry Advocacy & Response Team (HART)

January is National Human Trafficking Awareness & Prevention Month, a month dedicated to educating the public on how to identify and prevent trafficking. This month we're spotlighting the transformative work of the Huckleberry Advocacy & Response Team (HART).

Every day, our dedicated team stands alongside young people who face or have experienced commercial sexual exploitation, providing them with pathways to safety and healing.

Through 24/7 rapid response and trauma-informed care, HART advocates work in partnership with youth to lead the lives they desire and heal in the ways they define for themselves. HART connects young people with comprehensive support—from immediate crisis intervention to long-term case management—ensuring they have the resources needed to thrive: safe housing, mental health care, education opportunities, and vocational support.

In collaboration with key partners across San Francisco, including Human Services Agency, Department of Public Health, and Unified School District, we're creating a coordinated community response that puts youth dignity and agency at the center.

HART WAS BUSY IN JANUARY!

HART staff members were busy leading presentations this month with community partners like San Francisco Unified School District Social Workers and local nonprofit Safe & Sound.

HART also attended the 2nd Annual Breaking the Chains event in Alameda County last week.

Breaking the Chains is an annual march and community forum hosted by the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. The event raises awareness about human trafficking and promotes efforts to safeguard our communities.

"La Tia Chida" - "The Cool Aunt" Series in Spanish

We're excited to share that for the first time in January, Huckleberry's monthly commercial sex trafficking prevention group, "The Cool Aunt" was conducted in Spanish as "La Tia Chida."

"The Cool Aunt" workshops are HART's monthly prevention groups aimed at educating young people about commercial sexual exploitation to reduce their risk of being recruited into the commercial sex industry.

The workshop series is for youth who have not yet experienced commercial sex trafficking, but may be vulnerable to sexual exploitation.

The workshop takes place on the first Wednesday of each month.
