Pump Gun Shoot

March 9th

The Pump Gun was designed and introduced in 1893 by John Browning, and had revolutionary features, style & handling abilities.

We always get such a great turnout for this event! The use and enjoyment of the good ole Pump Gun is still going strong.

Lorne Howes Memorial Shoot for Cancer Research March 23rd

Lorne’s family and friends, have banded together for 34 years to carry forward and celebrate the life of Lorne Howes.

He passed away of Leukemia at the age of 30. He was a life long, best friend of owners of Silver Willow, Don and Gwen Day.

This was our final Lorne Howes Shoot for Cancer. We will run a fundraising shoot next year however it will be for a local charitable organization.

Randy Howes (right) & Don and Gwen Day (left) with Allan Duan (center) our winner of this year's Lorne Howes Shoot with a HOA of 96/100! What an awesome score!

We would like to thank all the shooters who participated this year. We had a pretty good turn out even with the weather being cold and snowy. $30.00 of each registration fee was donated to the Alberta Cancer Foundation in Lorne's name. We raised $1955.00 in total donations from the competing shooters. Thank you to all our local businesses, client business owners who donated prizes and those who so generously donated extra cash. These contributions make the Lorne Howes Cancer shoot such a successful and fun event!! Thanks again to all those who participated.

Instructor Andrew Harvison is coming to Silver Willow in May

Andrew Harvison is a well known and globally respected shot, having

won numerous British and English National titles in Sporting Clays,

Skeet and Trap. He is still competing at the highest level and was

selected as recently as 2010 as the England Sporting Team Captain.

Andrew is a highly qualified coach, one of the founding members of

the UK’s Association of Professional Shooting Instructors and author

of many published comprehensive articles regarding shotguns and

technique. Trained in firearms, ballistics and ammunition Andrew

has a specific talent and expertise in gun fitting, embodying all he has

learned in a long and illustrious career honed over many years.

Andrew is solely responsible for the resurrection of Holloway &

Naughton Gun makers, an English manufacturer of handcrafted

shotguns dating back to 1909. Being truly bespoke shotguns, every

detail is produced to the customer’s specification whilst the experience

of owning a Holloway & Naughton is enhanced by the exceptionally

high standard of Andrew’s gun fitting and coaching advice.

It has been said Andrew has the unique ability to be closer to his client’s

aspirations about shooting, and the ability to help them succeed.

In a sport where many voice opinions, Andrew’s are backed up by

competitive achievement, hands on expertise and the skills of actually

designing and making English Shotguns: as a competitor, gun fitter and

coach he is an uniquely qualified educator.

The process of using Visual data to shoot moving targets

AUTHOR: MARK ROBERTS, RETIRED FIREARMS SAFETY INSTRUCTOR / PROVINCIAL RANGE OFFICER (ONTARIO)

In my previous two articles, I mentioned the predictive process all brains, large or small, feeble or robust; use to manage data various senses retrieve and deliver to the brain. In this last part, I will attempt to explain how and why this relates to visual data and the shooting solutions we form to hit moving targets.

While it may not seem like a 'method' to directly increase your scores, it may help you, or in conjunction with a coach, to evaluate how your brain requires vital information from the external world to formulate shooting solutions, transform them into muscle movement, and thus fulfill that prediction back out in reality. How your brain can be tricked, starved or strained with either too little or too much data that can lead to the point of missing targets; even if your mount and other physical factors are down pat.

ZOLI Tradition

Where does the ZOLI quality come from

The origin of Antonio Zoli S.r.l. finds its roots in the historical and cultural context of the post-war period following World War II. A real embodiment of the typical entrepreneurial spirit that marks people from the area around Brescia, Antonio Zoli played an active part in the rebuilding stages following the war events that also involved the valley of the river Mella, where the company is located, placing the first steps for a business that would have shortly projected his name on the markets around the world. Antonio Zoli was born in 1905, his father Giuseppe built flintlocks in his shop in Magno, a small village (hamlet of Gardone Val Trompia) perched on the mountain above the present company location, the place where several famous gunsmith families come from.
