105th Edition

Hello Karen,,

Sometimes there is just not a whole lot of fun around your home when you're parenting a child with Reactive Attachment Disorder. Chaos, exhaustion, and push-away behaviours, along with a lack of fun, laughter, and joy, can quickly lead to caregiver burnout.

It is so important to find ways to bring the fun back into parenting, and the Awesome Parent Sticker Game is one I developed many years ago to do just that!

Take a trip to the dollar store or to your Amazon account (or raid your craft supplies) and get ready to play!

Enjoy!

What you need:

  • Cheat Sheets (download PDF below)
  • 50 stickers per adult playing (pick your favourites!)
  • Awards (one per parent/adult playing the game). This can be anything silly, such as a 1st Place ribbon, a trophy, chocolate, your favourite snack, etc.

What to do:

Begin by filling in your Cheat Sheets with the push-away behaviours that your child(ren) display that upset you or annoy you the most. Stick to a maximum of 10 so as not to get overwhelmed during the game.

Choose a day and time to start playing the game, to give all adult players a their cheat sheets and stickers. When your child(ren) displays one of the push-away behaviours on your sheet, call out, "I got a #_!" and award yourself a sticker! Put them on your shirt and wear them proudly!

Do not tell your children that you are playing the game and do not give them warnings about their behaviour or about what you're going to do. Start playing and just let them use their brains to figure out what is going on!

Ending the game and getting your award

When you have earned all 50 of your stickers, it's time to get your award!

You can award it to yourself, have the other adult player award it to you, or throw an Awesome Parent Award Ceremony, get dressed up, and celebrate together as a family!

The main aim of the game is to have fun and bring silliness and smiles back to your parenting.

Books to Boost Your Parenting!

"We bought the therapeutic parenting book, “What Are They Doing? The What, Why, and How of Therapeutic Parenting.” I came home, started reading it, and honestly started crying happy tears. It made me realize that I wasn’t a “bad” parent, just a therapeutic one. I have been doing so many of those out of survival and knowing it sometimes worked." -Therapeutic Mom
