District Evangelism Leadership
"As You Go"
By Rev. Brian Pratt, Chair
District Evangelism Team
During this season of The Epiphany, we have had many wonderful opportunities to teach and preach God’s priority of evangelism. We speak of our need for the light of Christ in this dark, sin-filled world. We can explain God’s loving means of grace, Baptism, to wash away our sin as we read of Jesus’ own baptism. At the naming of our Savior, we might expound on His many names from Scripture to show how He alone meets mankind’s every need. Another wonderful opportunity presents itself in our upcoming Gospel lesson (Luke 5:1-11) for February 9.
Jesus’ call for His disciples to be "fishers of men" is one of the most obvious examples of God’s call on us, His Church, to seek and save the lost. After working hard all night with no success, Jesus tells Peter to let down his nets one more time. Peter isn’t perfect, but He is WILLING TO OBEY because it is JESUS who directs (v.7). Our willingness is what God seeks in us to be fishers of men today! The heart of love for our neighbor given to us by the Holy Spirit can overcome any fatigue or reluctance, any selfishness or fear. He also promises to give us the very words to say to them (Luke 21:15)! A great catch of souls is waiting to be netted. The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Let us encourage our people to be open and willing to give the reason for the hope they have to anyone who has ears to hear! We may even need to leave other parts of our lives behind (v. 11) to obey and follow Jesus in His mission. What we jettison is temporal, but the heavenly catch of fish is eternal! As You Go about daily life, be aware of the people who NEED to hear about Who you know – Jesus!

The Church Responds to California Wildfires
(The following is excerpted from a recent message from Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison, President, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod)
The prophet Isaiah writes: “But now thus says the Lord, He who created you, O Jacob, He who formed you, O Israel: ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior’” (Isaiah 43:1–3a).
Even in the midst of disaster, the Lord remains with His people. The wildfires in Los Angeles County, California, continue to inflict widespread damage and suffering throughout the Los Angeles area. The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) is in close communication with the LCMS Pacific Southwest District (PSD) regarding our Synod’s response.
As long as it takes, LCMS Disaster Response will walk alongside the PSD and its congregations in this response.
If you are able financially to support the church’s response to wildfires in California, please prayerfully consider a contribution by clicking here. For more information on the LCMS Disaster Response ministry, click here.
Please continue to pray for all who suffer in the ashes and all who endeavor to help.

Christ, Aurora, ON
We rejoice with the members of Christ Lutheran Church as they welcomed Frank and Linda into membership through Confirmation, having studied so earnestly and joyfully.
We also give thanks as the congregation of Christ Lutheran Church warmly welcomed John, Christine, Helga, Susan, Megan, Erik, Easten, Ellie, Rev. J. Park, Marney, Chae Young, John, Leila, and Ali into membership. These individuals had been unable to have a formal welcoming ceremony during the COVID period. However, they now celebrate this long-awaited moment. Praise God for His faithfulness!

Faith, Tucson, AZ
Faith Lutheran School celebrated Lutheran Schools Week, observed nationally as School Choice Week. During this time they expressed their immense gratitude for the unique opportunities and blessings that they have as a private Lutheran school. Among the many other festivals, their Cross decoration stood out as an especially rich experience for students and staff alike. Everyone had the opportunity to express their faith and gratitude by decorating a 70-foot cross chalked on their parking lot. Many students incorporated their favorite memory verses, meaningful Christian symbolism, or illustrations of God‘s beautiful creation.
