NexTREX stretchy plastic recycling progress report: we have officially collected 390 pounds! Well on our way to meeting the 1000# goal by August to win a bench for Simonds School. Clean plastic bags and stretchy film can be brought to the library or the School. Many thanks to Judy Pellettieri of the Circle of Friends of the library who is handling the weighing and reporting, and taking it to the Market Basket transportation point.

NOTE: PLEASE don't go out of your way to request plastic to help this project! The idea is to reduce/divert waste plastic!

Grampie Redux

by Roger Robbins

My Grampie Walker was "a character". A dyed-in-the-wool, one-of-a-kind wonder. Everybody in town had a Grampie story.

Like when Grampie needed sand. He shoveled a bucket full out of a parked truck. "Don't worry," he said. "I know this guy. He'll never know it's missing."

Or at MacDonalds with his grandson:

"The boy wants a hot dog."

"Sorry, we don't have any."

"Isn't this a restaurant?"

"Yessir."

"Don't you feed people?"

"Yessir."

"Then give the boy his hot dog."

Now, Grampie has come back as Donald "Sully" Sullivan in Richard Russo's Nobody's Fool and in 2 sequel books. Sully drives a wheezy truck and does odd jobs with his "not quite with it" partner, Rub Squeers. When a customer refuses to pay up, Sully kidnaps the man's snowblower. Sully's exploits are entertaining page-turners that will keep you riveted. Like Grampie, he's a real "character".
