Wrightsboro United Methodist Church

Happy Friday, Church Family

For the past two weeks United Methodists from around the world have been gathered in Charlotte, North Carolina, for the quadrennial General Conference session. The General Conference is the highest decision making body of the United Methodist Church, made up of equal parts clergy and laity delegates elected by their respective annual conferences. Since the General Conference was in North Carolina, our Annual Conference hosted the event alongside the Western North Carolina Annual Conference. With close to 800 delegates in attendance, and a host of other support personnel and observers, it is estimated that this conference brought over 6,000 people to the Charlotte area with the hope of supporting our denomination in its mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Many landmark decisions were made at the General Conference this year, and any who are interested can read more about them by checking out the updates on our Annual Conference website (https://nccumc.org/gc/).

One of my favorite things about these meetings is the way it highlights our connectional spirit. I’ve been a United Methodist for over 20 years now, and each time I experience these events I always run into friends and fellow methodists who remember me no matter how briefly our time together had been. I run into former mentors, colleagues, youth group friends, congregants, kids that I confirmed (who are now married and having children of their own…still getting used to this one). Sometimes, it’s easy to get tunnel vision for where we are right now, and miss out on the big picture of what God is doing through this movement across the world. Over the last two weeks, milestone decisions were made regarding the future of our church. And they were made by incredibly diverse people who don’t always see eye to eye on things, but what we do see eye to eye on is the need to let our unity be one of the defining aspects of our witness. I believe more than anything else, this was the gift that this General Conference session offered to all of us United Methodists. There was no spirit of contention there, just mutual respect, love, and a desire to move forward together.

As seasons come and go, one thing that remains is the reminder that we are more than any one thing. We are more than our beloved pastors, we are more than our most involved lay members, we are more than our most thriving missions. We are United Methodists, united together under the banner of Jesus Christ who calls us to this good work in each and every season. For this truth and for each and every one of you I say thanks be to God!

I hope to see you on Sunday for church!

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Angelo

NORB-E CHURCH VBS ANNOUNCEMENT

We are so excited to announce that NORB-E is coming to our VBS on

Sunday July 21st- Wednesday July 24th

From 5:30-8:00pm

His name is Non-Organic Robot Buddy—Explorer Class, but you can call him NORB-E. He’s a space exploration assistant tasked with helping us on our mission to seek the glory of God in the furthest reaches of the universe.

You’d better buckle up, though, there’s turbulence ahead! Captain Crank is the crankiest kitty in all of outer space, and he won’t stop until our plans are puuurfectly foiled. Don’t worry, though! With the help of NORB-E, we’ll outwit that cranky kitty and discover that the glory of God is out of this world!

You can register your children via this link here NORBE VBS REGISTRATION

Typically This program will be for children ages 4 through just passed 5th grade. If you would like to learn more about our volunteer opportunities and/or have further questions please contact Hannah Nguyen.

This is going to be an incredible week, and we don’t want anyone to miss out—so invite your friends, neighbors, and classmates to get in on this intergalactic VBS action! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.

We can’t wait to see your kids at VBS! It’s going to be a blast!
