$11M in grants available to help Michigan businesses grow and train their workforce

Applications for cycle 2 of Going PRO Talent Fund open on April 22

LANSING, Mich. —The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) today announced applications have opened for cycle 2 of the Going PRO Talent Fund. Michigan businesses can apply to receive a share of at least $11 million in funding to help them train, develop, and retain current and newly hired employees.

In her 2025 budget recommendations, Governor Whitmer asked the legislature to pass $20 million for the fund to expand the program to ensure employers have the in-demand, high-skill talent they need to grow while giving local workers a clear path to good-paying jobs that offer a better quality of life for their families.

Eligible training programs supported by the Going PRO Talent Fund include classroom training, on-the-job training for new employees, and apprenticeships. Since the program’s launch, the Going PRO Talent Fund has provided training for approximately 175,000 Michigan workers and supported the needs of more than 7,100 businesses. >>READ MORE

The Northern Lakes Economic Symposium & Showcase will be on Friday, May 17th at Boyne Mountain! The event is a forum for everyone committed to the economic vitality of our region. Symposium attendees will engage with experts who have fostered innovation through new practices and policies. Between the mainstage and breakout sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to examine innovation through community, industry cluster, and business lenses. Registration here before May 2nd.

If your lawn has weeds, it is a sign you have poor soil.

Poor soil is compacted, dry, and lacks living microbes.

In the Torch Lake watershed, our soil is sandy and acts more like a sieve than a sponge.

Rich, healthy soil is alive with microscopic fungi, bacteria, and protozoa. >>Read More
