Australia
Aboriginal Australians are considered the oldest known civilization on earth, and Southeast Asian settlers arrived in Australia centuries before Europeans arrived in the 17th century. From 1788 until 1823, the New South Wales colony (now Australia) was officially a penal colony and settled by thousands of British and Irish released convicts who had served their sentences and were "transported” there to populate the large territory. By 1829, all of Australia was claimed for Great Britain. In the 1850s, gold rushes attracted many to the colonies and began to shift Australia away from its penal colony roots. Numerous people groups have settled in Australia throughout its history, resulting in diverse cultural populations. Independence was somewhat gradual, beginning with the federation in 1901. In 1942, it severed most constitutional links with the UK but remained a part of the British Commonwealth. In 1986, the British and Australian governments passed the Australia Act, which removed any remaining legislative or legal power that the British government had over Australia, making it a fully independent country. However, Australia remains an active participant in the Commonwealth.

While Christianity is the majority religion, over 30% of people make no faith claim. Like many places around the globe, relevancy is a continuing challenge. Many have negative attitudes toward Christians’ perceived intolerance, and individualized spirituality without accountability is often preferred. Many denominations are in decline. The Church of the Nazarene established work in Australia in 1946 and has sought to live out the message of scriptural holiness as Christlike disciples in this diverse nation. | |

Crossbridge Community
New Lead Pastor, Rev. Harold Flach
Harold grew up in the small town of Monticello Kentucky. It was there when he was first introduced to the Church of the Nazarene. His grandmother was a committed Christ follower and loved to serve the local church. It was through his local church that laid the ground work for his relationship with Jesus. Harold received a call to ministry going into his senior year of high school. Harold has a deep desire for our church to make Kingdom impact in the places where we live, work, and play. For people to look at our church and our relationship with Jesus, and people truly believe that this “relationship with Jesus” is actually possible!
Harold and Whitney have two beautiful children Summit (4) and Catalyst (1 ½).
Favorite Food: Crawfish and Pizza (not together!)
Favorite Color: Camo
Favorite Recreational: Hunting, Fishing, Golf, Shooting Pool, and embarrassing Whitney

Reachway
Reachway Church of the Nazarene is impacting its neighborhood of Peoria, Illinois, by providing a space the community can use for its benefit.
Reachway is a church plant that started five and a half years ago. Lead Pastor Seth Major said when he started a job at the local hospital, his eyes were opened to the problems the church's neighbors struggled with.
"It really showed me how low the bar is for quality of life for my neighbors," Major said.
The building Reachway meets in was originally built in the 1950s for a Nazarene church. Major and the congregation felt it was important to steward the building's original intention—to reach the community in an impactful way.
Major said that the neighborhood that surrounds Reachway has been historically neglected due to issues relating to race and socioeconomic, including some of the residents' habits.
"We believe in a God who goes after the one," Major said, referencing the parable of the lost sheep.
