Kicking Off National Physical Education and Sport Week
Dear Team DPS,

Today is the start of National Physical Education and Sport Week, honoring the DPS team members who support the health and well-being of our students from early childhood to graduation day! Created by the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE), this week acknowledges that health and physical education are critical to a well-rounded education.

Physical activity at all ages helps develop fundamental motor skills, personal and social skills and important character values. Daily recess, team sports, individual sports and extracurricular clubs can promote a sound body and mind. DPS team members — educators, coaches, trainers and more — are with students every step of the way. Physical education is more than just encouraging students to move their bodies. It also includes learning about sports safety and psychology, discovering a passion, nutrition and habits that will lead to a healthy lifestyle. The impact these educators have on student outcomes and our work environments does not go unnoticed!

Please join me in celebrating our physical education, athletics and activities staff members! Thank you for giving it your all to make fun and wellness through physical activity available to all DPS students.

Respectfully,

Dr. Tony Smith
Deputy Superintendent
