Issue #76

There are scallywags and nefarious pirates about, scouring the sea of concert venues and search engines, trying to convince you their site is the one to go to for tickets to a Murphy Theatre concert. Well Ahoy there matey, and shiver me timbers, (anyone who’s had their timbers shivered knows how that can turn out) don’t fall prey to these No-Goodniks posing as proper ticketing agencies.

Please, we’re begging you, for the love of all that is holy, only purchase your Murphy Theatre concert tickets from our website. We have discovered a plethora of other sites tagging on an additional $20, $30, sometimes as much as a $100 to some of our concert tickets, and some are even telling people this section or that section is sold out!

The ONLY way to know for sure that you have actually purchased a Murphy Theatre concert ticket, and at the price we list it at, is through our website, www.themurphytheatre.org, or by calling us at (937) 382-3643, or stopping in to buy your tickets in person at 50 W. Main Street,

in downtown Wilmington.

1) We typically host a Happy Friday Hours at Charlie’s on Fridays from 4:00 to 7:00. However, due to a production of Sign of Love, by Wholesome Life Productions, Happy Hour will not happen this weekend, but will return next Friday. We do encourage you to check out Sign of Love beginning at 6:30. It is suitable for the entire family, and you can get your tickets at the door.

2) Calling all Star Wars fans, join us Saturday night with our May The Fourth Be With You event kicking off at 6:00 with a concert by the Clinton County Community Band, playing many of composer John Williams’ favorite Star Wars franchise hits, followed by the movie, Star Wars: A New Hope, at 7:00. There’s gonna be some Star Wars memorabilia and collectibles to ogle over, and I think we’re raffling off something very exciting, ideally related to Star Wars. Ten bucks gets you in for the night, free for Murphy Members.

Special thanks to SFM Insurance for sponsoring

 this evening of family fun!

3) Forget all this hush money trial talk, Smarty Pants Trivia is the world’s most important evening of questioning, and we return to Charlie’s on Tuesday, May 7 to get some answers. Doors open at 5:45, with the first question dancing off my pouty lips at 6:30. The most glorious of prizes await the smartest in the room, such as concert tickets, a Murphy Theatre history book, a DVD of some long ago forgotten movie, and so much less. $5.00 to play, but Murphy members play for free.

4) Mike Albert and his Big E Band return to the Murphy stage with a special Mothers’ Day eve concert on Saturday night, May 11 at 7:30. Remember, nothing says “Momma, I love you more than a Peanut Butter and Bannaner sandwich” like taking your Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother to this night of music and song from the King. Tickets are selling faster than it takes to burn a hunk of love.

hugs kisses

5) Remember a few months back when I told you to SAVE THE DATE, especially if you’re a Bulbist? Good. We are working on something that those who contributed to our 2000 Bulbs of Light campaign will appreciate. Details next week, but please if you can, save that date! Oh, the date, 5/25/2024.

6) Speaking of a night of laughs, Dry Bar Comedy’s national touring comic Rod Paulette, with Marci Deloney take the Murphy stage for a night of laughter and more, Saturday, June 22nd, at 7:30. All tickets are $25 and on sale now!

7) Grand Ole Opry member and country music legend himself, the one and only Gene Watson plays the Murphy on Saturday night, June 1. Tickets are on sale now and going fast! Any country music fan worth their salt will want to catch this rare opportunity to watch the legend perform on this stage.

8) They were such a hit last year we’re bringing them back again this year with an all new production, Without a Net. It’s everybody’s favorite Family-Friendly instrumentalists and gymnastical contortionists, The Fourth Wall, and they’re coming back to our stage on Friday, June 7, at 7:30. This is part of our Family-Focused Fun programming made possible in part by our friends from the Clinton County Convention and Visitors Bureau. All tickets are just $15.00.

9) The classic big band era hits from Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and more come to life on Saturday, June 15 at 7:30, with Juke Box Saturday Night. Sing and Swing to the sounds of what many argue was the greatest era of music ever created, if you don’t count polka. But maybe that’s just me. Tickets are on sale now.

10) Another group we’re bringing back for a second year in a row, The French Family returns, with their special brand of heartfelt, family-friendly country music. They’ve performed at The Grand Ole Opry, as well as the Mike Huckabee show, and more, and we couldn’t be more excited than to have them gracing the Murphy stage one more time before they’re too popular for us to afford. Get your tickets today!
