Abundant Life Community Dinner—Tuesday, May 14

At St. Andrew’s we are committed to “feeding the hungry, welcoming the stranger, and being transformed by God.” We help fulfill this mission by partnering with other Episcopal churches in Greensboro to cook for Abundant Life’s community dinners at the Church of the Holy Spirit.

Our next turn to provide is May 14, and we are now seeking cooks! To help, simply fill a 9x13 disposable pan with a favorite dish, put it in the church’s kitchen freezer by the morning of May 12, and you will have fed the hungry, welcomed the stranger, and been transformed by God.

Please sign up using the link below. (Be sure to use the tab for the current month.) You can also contact Barbara Cooke at 336-521-0040 or using the "Ask a Question" link below.

Bedding and Blankets Needed for YWCA Family Shelter

Look for the "D.O.K. Donation Stations"

The Daughters of the King have accepted responsibility for supplying bedding for the YWCA Family Shelter. At the shelter, new families experiencing homelessness are provided fresh bedding on arrival, which they will take with them to their eventual “real” home.

Please bring bagged donations of new and gently used twin, double, and queen bedding to the new "D.O.K. Donation Stations!" Look for the Donation Stations on the classroom hall by the Godly Play Room, and downstairs next to the nursery.

Some Souper Good News

Our recent oup sale was a success and enabled us to transfer $2,800 to the Mission and Outreach account for the Safi family from Afghanistan. We value their life experiences and work together to help the parents and 5 young girls to have a happy life in their new home. We also were able to donate 18 quarts of soup to Abundant Life Ministries. A big Thank You to our soup chefs (including chef John Drees from The Corner Farmers Market), our soup sellers, and our soup buyers. Together you made it happen!

Take a Bag and Bring a Bag

Help fill the shelves at One Step Further!

Thank you for remembering our burgundy Bag Ministry. Each Sunday you may leave bags in the church narthex or Chapel hallway and take a bag to fill in the coming week. Food is collected and distributed weekly to One Step Further food pantry by our Missions and Outreach Committee.

Especially needed are rice, pasta, beans (dried and canned), and canned vegetables, meats, and fish. Thank you for feeding the hungry in our community.

Market Director's Update for May the 4th (be with you)

Hello May with all your deliciousness...

Spring and early summer vegetables are plentiful this week! We've got everything from fresh-picked organic strawberries to garlic scapes, asparagus, microgreens, and more.

A strawberry salad with a yummy vinaigrette from 4Real. Juices or GGs Best sounds pretty good. Maybe with some grilled chicken? Or some vegan cheese?

Also, be sure to see Amber at Anne and Rose (of Shrimp and Grits fame) - she's making a Power Bowl that will knock your socks off - hardy and light at the same time - perfect for an active weekend or a clean spring diet option.

And our vendors are bringing more and more plants - flowers and ornamentals, herbs, annual veggies like tomatoes, and fruit trees, and berry bushes.

Come see for yourself this Saturday!

Follow the Market on Facebook

The Corner Farmers Market delivers the goods each Saturday in our Kensington Rd. parking lot. Stay up to date on weekly offerings at their website (sign up for their newsletter!), and Facebook page.

We Pray For

Anglican Cycle of Prayer: Igreja Episcopal Anglicana do Brasil

From a youth gathering of the Anglican Diocese of the Amazon in April 2024, focused on the theme, Roots and Wings of Anglican Identity. (Juventude means youth in Portuguese.)

From News - Church of England | IEAB - Anglican Episcopal Church of Brazil

The Portuguese permitted the Church of England to establish chaplaincies in Brazil (for Anglo-Brazilians only) in 1810. Only after the separation of church and state in Brazil in 1889 was the Virginia Theological Seminary able to send missionaries to Brazilians in Porto Alegre, and the Anglican church began to emerge. Anglicans in Brazil remained a missionary diocese of the Episcopal Church in the United States until 1965, when it became its own province within the Anglican Communion. In recent years its stance as an “inclusive” church has led to schism, and the Igreja Episcopal Anglicana do Brasil, our sister province, is not to be confused with the Anglican Church in Brazil.
