WHAT:

Crews are scheduled to work on the SR-55 bridge over MacArthur Boulevard next week.

This work requires directional closures of MacArthur under the freeway as well as the northbound and southbound loop on-ramps. The off-ramps and the straight on-ramps will remain open. Eastbound and westbound MacArthur will not be closed simultaneously.

WHEN:

Eastbound MacArthur and the loop on-ramp to northbound SR-55 will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, and Thursday, March 21.

Westbound MacArthur and the loop on-ramp to southbound SR-55 will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday, March 21, and Friday, March 22.

This work may be loud. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen operational issues.

Drainage System 

A new drainage system is being constructed along the McFadden Avenue off-ramp from northbound SR-55. The drainage system is a reinforced concrete box designed to help with the flow of water beneath roadways. 

Crews are expected to resume daytime activities after postponing the work due to weather and site conditions. An existing drainage system will be removed once the new one is complete.

Retaining Wall

An existing retaining wall adjacent to the drainage system will be demolished as early as Monday, March 18. This is required as crews prepare to construct a new retaining wall with a sound wall on top of it. The new wall will be approximately 30’ tall and nearly 900’ long.

OCTA, in cooperation with Caltrans, is improving 4 miles of SR-55 between I-405 and I-5. The project will improve traffic flow and reduce travel time by adding one regular lane and one carpool lane in each direction. Also, the project will add merge lanes between several interchanges and stripe carpool lanes for continuous access, augmenting safety on the freeway by making merging easier. These enhancements are expected to create a better, smoother driving experience for motorists.
