Requested Items: $5-$10 gift cards, craft supplies, candy, Takis, Cheetos, chips, journals, handwritten cards with affirmations; fidgets, small pride flags/pins/stickers; and local artist stickers. We'll assemble them together on March 24 at 12:30.

Lunch and movie on Thursday

This month's 49+ Lunch and Classic Film & Discussion is a week earlier than usual. Watch "The Blackboard Jungle" at 10 a.m. in Room 163 followed by discussion, then eat lunch with fabulous group of people. Or just join one or the other! It is "Pi Day," so we are hopeful that there will be pie at lunch. No need to RSVP.

Here's an overview of "The Blackboard Jungle": What is the difference between a job, an occupation, a profession, and a calling? This 1955 classic was a precursor to the Rock and Roll Revolution with the soundtrack “Rock Around the Clock” from Bill Haley and the Comets. It follows Glenn Ford as a teacher who tries to make a difference in a tough inner-city school. Despite setbacks, he uses unconventional methods and will not give up on his students. With Anne Frances and Sidney Poitier and a very early performance by Jamie Farr of M*A*S*H* fame.

Birthday greetings for Jimette Rose McLean

Jimette Rose McLean's 80th birthday is April 12! She would love to get cards/notes from St. John folks. For those who don't know her, she is a former St. John diaconal minister who left a legacy of "Rose-isms." One famous classic? "It's enough to make you believe in Jesus!"

Workday at Chugiak UMC

The United Methodist Church of Chugiak is hosting a workday on Saturday, March 16, to take care of a list of small handyman-type fixes throughout their facility, and we have been invited to participate! This is the church that led Pastor Andy into the faith. This will be a great time of fellowship between our churches and an even better way to encourage each other in our mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ. Reach out to Pastor Andy if you would like to participate. Even if you are available for part of the day, we'd love your help. This opportunity is open to all persons of St John (not just United Methodist Men).

Host a conference attendee

We’re so excited to host Annual Conference June 27-30 at St. John this year. If you have a spare room and can host conference participants in your home, please contact Gail in the church office. Homestays are a great way for us to be good stewards of our resources. We will have folks who need to stay from June 26-July 1.

UMHEF scholarship deadline extended

The United Methodist Higher Education Foundation remains committed to making it financially possible for United Methodist students to attend UM-related colleges, universities, and seminaries. Due to continued delays in financial aid and admissions processes caused by challenges with the 2024 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), UMHEF is extending its application deadline another month. Students now have until April 15 to apply here. UMHEF is a private non-profit foundation that awards more than $2 million in scholarships every year!

Music Machine registration

The Music Machine will once again be rehearsing at St. John this summer. Would your child like to be a part of this music and dance camp? Registration is now open! Find details here

A vehicle to spare?

A church member's car recently went kaput and he is looking for a donated or loaner vehicle. If you have any leads, please contact the church office.

Invitation to Group Soul Care

Does your soul feel weary or disconnected? Would you like to connect deeper with God and others but are unsure how to? Group Soul Care is an opportunity to learn how to listen to others and oneself so that we can be better guests in each other’s stories as well as our own. Colleen Runty will be the spine for the group offering support, structure, and safety. Groups will be limited to 4-5 individuals. Schedules will be determined based on group members' availability, and location (Zoom or in-person) will be determined upon group preference. A definite desire and ability to attend consistently is needed to support group cohesiveness. If this feels like a spiritual nudge, contact Colleen Runty for more information.
