The ICAA's video series Great Rooms invites interior designers to speak about their favorite rooms and to explain what makes these spaces such exceptional examples of design.
In this first episode, Guillaume Féau of Féau Boiseries introduces viewers to two iterations of one 17th-century room designed by the architect Claude Nicolas Ledoux. First, Guillaume welcomes viewers to the stunning reproduction of the Ledoux room at the company's workshop in Paris, and discusses its qualities with renowned architect Andrew Skurman. Next, Guillaume meets with Nicolas Kugel at the Kugel Gallery, where the original panels are installed with an exquisite array of Japanese lacquer.
Guillaume Féau is the third-generation owner of Féau Boiseries. Based in the center of Paris for more than a hundred years, Féau Boiseries specializes in antique wood paneling and fireplaces, parquet flooring as well as the reproduction of paneling. In addition to selling million-dollar antique boiseries, Guillaume has a thriving secondary business re-creating period rooms, which he supplies to designers around the world.
The ICAA would like to thank the sponsor of the Great Rooms series: Féau Boiseries.

In this second episode of the Great Rooms series, Jamie Drake of Drake/Anderson reveals the complex design considerations behind a total renovation of a historic London townhouse, a project dubbed "London Calling" in the firm's new book BOLD: The Interiors of Drake/Anderson. From historic murals (reputed to be by Sir James Thornhill) to oddly shaped rooms that presented unique renovation challenges, and decorated with eclectic collections of contemporary artworks and fine furniture, this is a project with a dazzling array of colors and materials sure to entice fans of Drake/Anderson's work.
Jamie Drake is the co-founder of Drake/Anderson, the New York-based firm well-known for their dynamic eclecticism whose work forges a perfect balance between timelessness and today.

The Arts and Crafts Movement is known for its rich legacy of architecture and decorative arts in both Britain and the United States. The movement also played an important role in defining the garden as a harmonious component of the house. Arts and Crafts gardens were designed with an appreciation for local craftsmanship and historical antecedents. The movement championed regional traditions, from the Cotswolds to New England. Beautiful flower borders, regional garden architecture, and a sense of intimacy are essential characteristics that can inspire today's gardens. A selection of gardens both old and new on both sides of the Atlantic shows the movement's diversity and appeal.
Judith B. Tankard is an art historian specializing in landscape history. She is the author of a dozen award-winning books on British and American garden designers, including Gertrude Jekyll, Beatrix Farrand, and Ellen Shipman. Her latest book, Gardens of the Arts and Crafts Movement, was published by Timber Press.

Affordable housing remains one of the most challenging sectors in architectural design and a critical societal need across the United States. However, the design of place-based, dignified, affordable housing in walkable neighborhoods is in short supply. Public agencies, policymakers, institutions, developers, architects, and planners are making strides in addressing this deficiency.
Union - recipient of the 2023 ICAA Gindroz Award for Excellence in Affordable Housing – invests the same attention and care to the design of affordable housing as with all projects within their diverse practice. This session of the Case Studies series explores this work. The program begins with an overview of the context surrounding affordable housing, followed by a presentation of Union’s work in this field.

The Housing Authority of the City of Santa Barbara (HACSB), recipient of the 2022 ICAA Gindroz Award for Excellence in Affordable Housing, is a public agency that has a long track record of providing safe and quality affordable housing and supportive services to eligible persons with limited incomes while also being a catalyst for thoughtful design.
The case studies examined in this two-part course include three projects built and operated by the HACSB and designed by the Cearnal Collective. The program begins with a series of presentations on the context both in Santa Barbara and nationally, followed by individual case studies of three affordable housing projects.
