MONDAY MEMO
5th grader Audrey DesJardins read her personal narrative aloud to an audience of classmates, 3rd graders, and parents last week.
Greetings!

This is the last week of the first trimester of the school year. Most teachers are working on culminating activities and assessments. Celebrating together with student performances on Wednesday night will be such fun!

Happy Monday,
Nelia
NOTES
SCHOOL CLOSINGS
Should we have severe weather or road conditions in our area, we may have a traditional snow day, with campus closed. Families will be notified via School Messenger (robo calls and emails) before 6:30 am; we will also notify area news outlets so that Riverside is among the schools listed as closed. We will not engage in any remote learning for the first three snow days of the season. If we have a fourth, or more, we will communicate some virtual meet times and expectations for the day as soon as possible.
FALL FOOD DRIVE
Middle school students (Celia Faherty, Lucy Moriarty, Cora Adams, and Liam Albritton) are organizing a food drive to help feed our greater community. All items collected will be donated to The Lyndon Area Food Shelf for Thanksgiving boxes. The Lyndon Area Food Shelf serves Lyndon, Lyndon Center, Lyndonville, Burke Hollow, East & West Burke, Kirby, Newark, Sutton, Sheffield, and Wheelock. They are seeing more need now than ever before and having a hard time keeping their shelves stocked. We need your help with donations of non-perishable items. You will find collection boxes on the porch of the house and barn at Riverside today and until the morning of Friday, November 17th. Thank you so much for your help.
ARTS NIGHT
We look forward to celebrating the impressive, artistic work of PreK-8th graders this Wednesday evening 5:30 pm at the Lyndon Institute Auditorium! That means:
  • K-8th graders will be rehearsing there in the afternoon, so pick up that day is behind the LI Auditorium, at 3:00 for K-5th graders and 3:30 for 6-8th graders.
  • For the performance, band students should arrive at 5:00, and all other students at 5:15.
  • We hope students will be dressed in performance attire, not in jeans, t-shirts, or sneakers.
RIVERSIDE SERVICE DAY
Throughout this Friday morning PreK-8th grade students will be engaging in a variety of projects to support H.O.P.E., Lyndon Area Food Shelf, area rehabilitation centers, The Darling Inn Thanksgiving, The Riverside Life Enrichment Center, our local roadsides, and more. We would love to have participation from any parents whose schedules allow. It's a perfect opportunity to get involved in our supportive community, to get to know more students of mixed ages, and your extra hands and attention will make projects go more efficiently. Please email Nelia if you can join us in the morning, especially from 8:30-11:00.

There will be an early dismissal on Friday for vacation, details below.
HALF DAYS AND EDP
This Friday, November 17 is an early dismissal at 1:15 from school for PK and 6-8th graders, and at 1:30 from the skating rink for K-5th graders. We really hope to have advance sign ups for all students in the Extended Day Program on Friday, as compared to the challenging situation on our last half day. If this sign up system doesn't work, then we likely will start using additional charges in the future for students who attend without prior notice.

There is no Extended Day Program option for the elementary students this Friday, since they are dismissed off-campus. If your middle school child will be in the EDP for the long afternoon, Sean asks that 6-8th parents please sign up using this link, even if they are regular attendees of the program, because of the long afternoon and likely additional attendance.

Preschool Afterschool program will run from 12:30-4:15 and McKenna would appreciate knowing if your child will be staying late on Friday.
ICE SKATING
On Friday all K-5th graders will be skating at Fenton Chester Arena on the LI campus. Parents and siblings are always encouraged to join us at the rink, come skate! Please pick up there is at 1:30 on Friday. There is no EDP when students are dismissed from off campus programs. No one will be going to Kingdom Gymnastics at the Green Mountain Mall on Route 5.

Mark your calendar for future Fridays:
  • Dec. 1: Caelum, Aqua, Ignis at skating, Terra at gymnastics
  • Dec. 8: Ignis, Terra, Aqua at skating, Caelum at gymnastics
  • Dec. 15: all 6-8th graders skating, K-5th graders on campus
RADA CUTLERY FUNDRAISER
Online orders are open until November 17th. Share the link with friends and family, and products can be shipped directly. If you have any questions, you can email Annie Patoine.
GRANDPARENTS' DAY
We are looking forward to celebrating the extent of our supportive community with all grandparents and special friends of Riverside students on Monday, November 27. If we had their contact information already, we sent grandparents an invitation and asked that they please RSVP to Krystal. Guests are welcome between 9:00-2:00 that day. We will have mid morning coffee, tea, and snacks as well as a full lunch at 11:15 (with elementary grandchildren) or 12:15 (with middle school grandchildren). Thank you to all the parent bakers who've volunteered to prepare treats for our guests. We look forward to seeing you!
SCHOOL PICTURE RE-TAKES
The photographer from Whipple Studios will be back for re-takes of any unsatisfactory student photos on Wednesday, November 29, mid-morning. If you'd like your child's photo to be re-taken, please return the order packet, with complete and un-cut photos, to Krystal as soon as possible.
CLUBS - ANOTHER NEW ONE!
  • 4-8th Magic the Gathering Club will be Mondays from 3:40-4:30 in the 5th grade classroom. We will have cards for students to borrow. Parents are encouraged to send in snacks. Please let Hanna or Mr. G know if you can provide a healthy snack for the group. Elementary students should check into after school at 3:00 and let the after-school staff know they are attending the MTG Club. If you cannot pick up your child at 4:30, please email Sean to let him know that your child will be returning to after school after the club is over.
  • 6-8th MathCounts Club will be an opportunity to join an academically competitive math club and have fun discussing and solving a variety of math problems.Things will look a little different this year, as there is no more video challenge option. Interested middle school students are welcome to attend the first MathCounts meeting on Monday, November 13 from 3:45 - 4:30pm to try it out. All math abilities are encouraged to attend; however students should be able to focus independently on math problems for the length of the club.
