Letter from the Principal

Dear Raider Families,

Great learning is happening in our classrooms each day, and I hope you are having great conversations at home about your student's progress. One strategy you can try is a weekly check-in on the ABCs - attendance, behavior, and course performance. These are the key indicators of school success and the routines that will create habits for future success. Are we attending and giving our best effort whenever possible? Remind students that being present and being on time is important. Is our behavior demonstrating respect and kindness toward classmates and teachers? Are we giving our best effort to learning and investing the time and attention to studying and reading that will help us be successful, even as content becomes more challenging? A regular check-in on these indicators will help students begin to self-assess their school effort and make necessary adjustments. Parents, please reach out to your teachers for a conversation or conference if you have any questions about your student's progress in any of these areas.

Our teachers will be engaged in their own professional learning on Monday, and then back in the classroom to engage and inspire. We are looking forward to a great week of learning at McCulloch this week!

Study Skill Focus - Having a Growth Mindset

  1. Recognize what it means to have a fixed mindset (when you are unwilling to change).
  2. Embrace challenges and difficulties.
  3. Don’t fear failure; we learn from our mistakes.
  4. Put forth maximum effort.
  5. Be open to learning and growing.
  6. Be persistent and remain determined.
  7. Seek feedback and help.
  8. Celebrate your successes.

Our mission at HPMS is to ensure high levels of learning and personal growth for all Raiders in and beyond the classroom. Thank you for helping us achieve our mission!

As always, please let me know if you have questions, suggestions, or concerns.

Basketball

Please congratulate your 7th grade girls A team on their tournament games this past weekend! They started the weekend off against McKinney Cockrill and defeated them 40-33. Although they fell short in their second round against McKinney Dowell (final score 32-42), it was still a great season filled with a lot of growth. Thank you for your support!

Please congratulate your 8th grade girls A team on their tournament games this past weekend! They won against Prosper Hays 44 - 13 before playing Prosper Rogers, who had beat them earlier in the season. After winning against Rogers in a close game (48 - 42), they played Rushing for the championship. The Raiders fell short but fought hard. Congratulations tournament MVPs Harper Jud and Wynn Ellis. It has been a fun season, and we appreciate all your support!

The 7th Grade Boys A Team went undefeated this season and are the outright District Champions! With the District Tournament wins, your Raiders improved their record to 9-0 in the regular season play and 6-0 in tournament play, pushing their overall record to a perfect 15-0 for the season! We want to thank you for all of your support this season, and we look forward to running it again next basketball season!

Notes from the Raider Library

RED any good books lately?

This year's annual Raider Library Book Fair will follow the Raider Reads initiative and will run Wednesday, February 28 - Friday, March 1. The Scholastic fair will offer an incREDible variety of books to interest and engage our reading Raiders.

If you would like volunteer to help cashier at the fair, watch for shifts to be added to VSP and sign up!

Book fairs help raise much-needed funds for the library and get new books into the hands of our Raiders. Thank you in advance for your support of this year's fair!

Alan Gratz Author Visit!

To culminate all of this literary excitement, our featured author ALAN GRATZ will visit MIS/HPMS Tuesday, March 5! He will provide an interactive presentation to all four grade levels! Additionally, Mr. Gratz will speak that evening at 5:30 p.m. HP families and community members are invited to attend and hear Mr. Gratz speak about his books and his writing process.
