OFFICIAL APPOINTMENTS

Archbishop Paul D. Etienne and the Priest Personnel Board released the Official Appointments including pastors, parochial vicars, and other assignments. Official Appointments

PARISH LISTENING SESSIONS

This Weekend, April 13 & 14 after all Masses

In July we will be welcoming Father Brad Hagelin, Pastor, and Father Val Park, Vicar.

Father Brad Hagelin was ordained to the priesthood in 2011. He grew up in Seattle's Our Lady of Fatima Parish and graduated from Seattle Prep. As a freshman at Gonzaga University, he had a powerful conversion experience, and after graduating entered Mundelein Seminary, where he earned a Bachelor's in Theology, a Master's in Divinity, and Licentiate in Sacred Theology. His favorite parts of priestly ministry are preaching, teaching, and stewarding the charisms of a parish, "According to Vatican II, the primary job of a pastor - other than celebrating the liturgy - is to 'foster with diligence the various humble and exalted charisms of the laity.' It is my role to help uncover, discern and test these gifts, and then to call them out and help people employ them so that they can be arranged in harmony to build up the kingdom of God. It is a great joy when people see how the Lord uniquely loves them and equips them." Fr. Brad also enjoys skiing and stand up paddleboarding.

Father Val Park was ordained to the priesthood in 2021. He was born in Incheon, South Korea, and has lived in Korea and Vietnam. He speaks fluent Korean and English, and is working on Spanish. At Western Washington University, Fr. Val enjoyed the strong faith community of the Newman Center. At the encouragement of the priest at his home parish, he answered the call to become a priest and studied at Mount Angel Seminary. Fr. Val's favorite part of priestly ministry is administering the Sacrament of Reconciliation and celebrating the Eucharist, "Hearing confessions is challenging, but also what I find the most rewarding. People come into the confessional, bringing their brokenness,

wounds, and transgressions, and I witness God's loving mercy transforming them into peace, joy, and love. I get to be a bridge of Christ's loving mercy." Fr. Val also enjoys watching and playing sports (especially basketball and baseball), hiking, walking, and cooking/eating ramen.

This weekend we will be using the Synodal Listening method and will ponder the following:

  1. Share your top thought about the new Pastor and Parochial Vicar selections. What are your hopes and fears about this?
  2. What one thing do you want the new Pastor to know about SJV?

Your participation helps determine what our parish partnership will look like. Be involved and support SJV and its ministries!

READINGS FOR THE THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER

PRACTICE OF FAITH

Imagine eating with the risen Jesus. What would you serve him? What would you talk about? Would you laugh or be serious?

  • When Jesus appeared to his disciples, "he opened their minds to understand" (Luke 24:45). What aspects of our faith tradition do you struggle to understand?

We are doing our best to continue to provide a safe space to worship for everyone. Click here to see current COVID safety measures.

Live Stream Mass is during the Sunday 9:00am Mass.

AFGHAN REFUGEE FAMILY UPDATE

Nabila, Farhad and their children have been Reunited!

Nabila and her triplets were reunited with her husband, Farhad, and young daughter last Tuesday at SeaTac. After 2 years and 9 months of separation following Nabila’s evacuation from Kabul, this reunion felt miraculous. Words cannot describe seeing Nabila’s joy in holding her daughter again. They were greeted at the airport by their cousins and all celebrated together that evening breaking the daily Ramadan fast with a family feast.

We are so grateful to all of you for your support and prayers for these families. This would not have been possible without your generosity. Continued prayers are requested for a speedy reunion for Shamila and her husband Bilal.

SUNDAY OF DIVINE MERCY

Thank you to everyone that participated in the Divine Mercy celebration. The prayer procession and the potluck, celebrating the Holy Divine Mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ were a special blessing to us all. Special thanks to the Filipino Community for initiating the event and to everyone that helped in any way.

There is nothing that man needs more than Divine Mercy – that love which is benevolent, which is compassionate, which raises man above his weakness to the infinite heights of the holiness of God.

—Shrine of Divine Mercy in Cracow, Poland
