The MacArthur Memorial Unveiled the 1899 Declaration of Philippine Independence

During the 2023 VA Top 10 Endangered Artifacts Program, the MacArthur Memorial nominated a copy of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo’s 1899 Declaration of Philippine Independence.

The document underwent conservation and was unveiled at the Memorial in early February 2024 as part of a free public event marking the 125th Anniversary of the Philippine-American War. See the before and after images below!

"...the [VA Top 10 Endangered Artifacts Program] contest helped raise international awareness about the artifact."

"After the contest, we received a number of inquiries from individuals interested in contributing to the conservation of the document. Within weeks, due to the generosity of people around the world, we were able to crowdfund 100% of the conservation cost as well as all the elements needed to support and protect the document while on public display..."

Radio Collection Looking for a New Home

Rob Thomas, a local Industrial Designer, is assisting the Museum of Yesterday in finding a home for this historic collection of radios, telephones, and other communications technology and wrote to Rick, Executive director at VAM, to see if any museums out there would be interested and have space for all or some of it.

Thanks so much for your assistance on finding a home for this unique collection of American History. Without radio, there would not be most of the advancements made in the last 100 years especially in the realm of space exploration and indeed the American way of life itself...
