WRRA Spring 2024 Learn to Row Volunteer Opportunities!

WRRA is looking for experienced Rowing and Coxswain members to help at the Spring 2024 Learn to Row sessions. WRRA defines an experienced rower as someone who has three years of experience, is able to back a shell, and is strong enough to turn a shell by themselves from either the Stroke or Bow seat. This is to ensure the safety of our novices. Coxes need to be able to safely steer the shell away from the dock and safely return to the dock. There will be a dockmaster to assist with this. Volunteer credit will be awarded to those who volunteer:

PanAm Master Games:

The rowing course for the Pan Am Masters Games in Cleveland, Ohio on July 13-14, 2024 is going to look a little different than a normal masters sprint race. This is because we row on a very unique river - if you think the Head of the Charles has crazy turns, just wait until you get a look at the Cuyahoga.

Because of the large S turns in our narrow river, we will be holding the race head style on a fully buoyed course that goes through the heart of downtown Cleveland. It will start in the pocket of Collision Bend and end at the docks of the Cleveland Rowing Foundation on Irishtown Bend. This is the final 1500 meters for our fall head race, the Head of the Cuyahoga. The course is also fun for spectators as there are two bridges under which rowers will pass, and the curves allow for someone on a bicycle to quickly cut between the start and the finish lines.

https://hotcregatta.files.wordpress.com/2022/08/hotc-course-views-map.pdf

There will be races for singles (1x), doubles (2x), quads (4x), coxed fours (4+) and eights (8+). Because of the nature of the course, we are unable to host pairs (2-) or straight fours (4-). There may be an opportunity to practice this challenging course on Friday before race day and we can provide assistance renting shells as needed.

We hope you will join us for this one of a kind rowing experience at the 2024 Pan Am Masters Games. See you in Cleveland!
