Findley Lake Scouting Memorabilia Needed

The Findley Lake & Mina Historical Society is working on displays for the Town of Mina’s Bicentennial Celebration. An important part of the history of the Town of Mina is that of scouting – both the Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops.  To present a robust history of scouting in the Town of Mina, there is a need for additional Findley Lake scouting memorabilia including photos, uniforms, programs, etc. If you or anyone you know have any memorabilia that you could lend or donate to the historical society, it would be greatly appreciated. You can contact Mary Norcross, Mina Town Historian and President of the Findley Lake & Mina Historical Society for more information. Her phone number is 716-769-7688.

“Swanee”

The Town of Mina Bicentennial Mascot

Calling All Fabric Creators

The Findley Lake & Mina Historical Society has announced that the mascot for the 2024 Bicentennial Celebration is “Swanee the Swan” - and the society is looking to assemble an ensemble (also called a bevy) of at least 200 delightful fabric swans to celebrate our 200 years. We are looking for volunteer sewers, quilters and other fabric creators who are interested in making one or perhaps many more of the whimsical swans from the swan template we found online (see photo included with this article). Each swan will be created from remnants of fabric that the society has acquired or from a stash that the fabric creator owns. The goal is to give each swan its own unique personality by creating interesting combinations of colors and fabric designs. Each “Swanee” will be sold as a unique and special memento of the 200th anniversary.

Your assistance with this creative project would be greatly appreciated – whether you are able to donate fabric and/or batting, cut out fabric to make kits to assist seamstresses/seamsters, or use your sewing talent to construct swans, please help us achieve our goal of 200 swans by April 1, 2024 for the 200th anniversary of the formation of the Town of Mina.

LET'S HELP OUR FURRY FRIENDS

FINDLEY LAKE LIBRARY IS

COLLECTING ITEMS FOR

 SMALL TOWN SHELTER

Regulars at our library know that February is reserved for our furry friends. Two years ago we had a “Sweetest Pet” Contest and last year we had a “Sweetest Pet” Scavenger Hunt. This year, we decided to do something a little different. We’re collecting much-needed items for Small Town Shelter, Inc, a non-profit animal shelter located in Sherman. People can drop off donated items at the library, and at the end of February, we will take them to Small Town Shelter. Let’s show these future Sweet Pets some love by helping to support the people who take care of them until they find a home! (List of items needed in comment below.

Items Needed:

Purina Dog Chow (green Bag)

Purina Cat Naturals (light green bag)

Pedigree soft dog food

Friskies soft cat food

Paper Towel

Puppy Pads

Scent free laundry soap (any brand)
