Dear Residents -

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. While the weather was not ideal, I enjoyed spending time with my family, even if some of it entailed running in the pouring rain (after all, I did say rain or shine). With the Turkey Trot behind me, I then kicked back to relax and enjoy a delicious guilt-free dinner and dessert.

This week, my office received numerous complaints about a real estate salesperson knocking on their doors. This is not the first time something like this has happened, having recently had a similar issue with a solar salesperson. While we cannot outright prohibit these types of sales, the Town does have a Do Not Knock Registry that prohibits them from knocking on your door. If you are on the Registry and a salesperson comes to your door, please immediately contact the Orangetown Police Department, as a summons can be issued. However, to be enforceable, your name must be on the Registry maintained at the Town Clerk’s Office—merely having the sticker is not enough. To sign up (or confirm if you are signed up), please contact the Town Clerk’s Office at (845) 359-5100 x 5004 or townclerk@orangetown.com.

The holiday season is definitely upon us and with it, lots of fun things to do. There are simply too many of them to mention here, so please continue to scroll down to see all the exciting things that are going on in Orangetown—including tree decorating and a holiday concert.

However, two of my favorites are this weekend—the St. Thomas Aquinas College Annual Winter Wonderland Family Festival is on Saturday from 12 pm to 6 pm and on Sunday, the Orangetown Parks and Recreation Annual Santa Claus 5K Run/Walk at Veterans Memorial Park is at 10:30 am. For the first time in many years I will not make the run – so the 1st Place Town Female Employee trophy is up for grabs!

Please note that the Orangetown PBA is hosting its 36th Annual Toy Drive until Wednesday, December 18th. There is a box in the foyer at Town Hall, right next to Senator Bill Weber’s Winter Coat Drive box. All donations are greatly appreciated for either or both boxes.

With so much going on, you have no reason to be bored this weekend. Whatever you choose to do, enjoy!

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny

Frostbite and Hypothermia

If you or someone you care about must venture outdoors during extreme cold this winter, dress in layers. Cover exposed skin to reduce your risk of frostbite or hypothermia. Try to seek shelter from the wind as much as possible while outside. Once inside again, change into dry clothing immediately if you are wet. Watch for frostbite and hypothermia, and take immediate action upon the first detection of either.
