Assalam Alaikum de Casa Umar

Jummah Mubarak, and Ramadan Kareem:

Dear friends of Casa Umar,

We are tending to freshly sprouted corn and beans; building an invernadero (greenhouse) for tomatoes, carrots, onions, and herbs like cilantro; and maintaining a great turnout at Iftar dinners where dozens from our community have shared homemade meals nightly since the first night of Ramadan.

As we enter the last few days of this holy month and prepare for what could be Laylatul Qadr, or The Night of Decree, we want to remind you of an opportunity to support our work in Chiapas. Donations can be made directly to our GoFundMe page.

We are raising funds for a full-time Islamic Montessori school, an on-site food garden using reclaimed materials and sustainable agriculture practices, as well as assistance for our community members with school tuition, necessary healthcare, and other financial aid. Donations are zakat- eligible.

As we dedicate ourselves to worship during these remaining blessed days, please consider supporting this vibrant community.

The Faces of Casa Umar

In case you missed it: We have just produced a short video introducing you to our community. The opening dialogue is in Tzotzil, the native tongue of a majority of our brothers and sisters here in Chiapas.

You can expect these newsletters weekly during Ramadan and monthly beyond, inshaa Allah.
