Public feedback on the 2024-2028 Five-Year Financial Plan
Public feedback gathered on the 2024-2028 Five-Year Financial Plan was presented to the Regional Board. The proposed financial plan outlines a $4.1 million increase to the operating budget, from $61.4 million to $65.6 million which translates to an 8.5% average tax increase for property owners in the Central Okanagan and a 16.5% average tax increase for property owners in Central Okanagan Electoral Area West. Directors Wayne Carson and Kevin Kraft, representing electoral area West and electoral area East, opposed the financial plan, along with Kelowna city councillor Ron Cannan. However, the plan passed with the unanimous support of all other directors, each appointed by their respective municipalities. West Kelowna Mayor Gord Milsom praised RDCO staff for what he said was a thorough and fair budget plan.
Update: The West Kelowna city council, in its regular meeting held on Tuesday, February 27, approved a 6.85% municipal tax hike. Mayor Milsom characterized the budget as predominantly centered on public safety and underscored the necessity to be mindful of taxpayers' financial capabilities, noting, "There is only so much we can ask our tax payers to pay”.
North Westside Community Association Grant-in-Aid Funding
The Regional Board approved Grant-in-Aid funding of $3,400 for the North Westside Community Association. The allocated funds are dedicated to assisting local youth sports and contributing to the support of community Easter and Canada Day celebrations.
