THE METHODIST MESSENGER

Making disciples of Jesus Christ who worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly.

Have you ever thought that maybe God could use you to do something mighty? That maybe, given the opportunity, you could be a part of something truly significant? That you might also be instrumental in a way that fulfills your deepest desire to be found to be true follower of Christ, who someday hears the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant...”? Ref

Perhaps you haven’t had these thoughts. Perhaps you think that you’re not worthy to be trusted by God. That maybe you are too small in the universe, without any of the needed pre-requisites for making significant contributions to God’s kingdom on earth. You are not alone; many people have felt this way. Separation from God leaves us feeling small.

Being restored in the fulness of God means that things have changed. Jesus told a parable with a truth that is often lost in the telling of the story. When the older son refused to celebrate the return of his formerly wicked brother, he was reminded by his father that everything the father had is his. That was son was living in the blessing of already being blessed.” Ref  This means that we have already been blessed and that we have also inherited not only kinship but also the mission of Jesus. We are to bring the Good News of Jesus’ sacrifice into our world today. I’ve heard it said that “God doesn’t call the equipped; God equips those He calls.”

We are blessed to be in the family of God which is First Methodist.  The Father has trusted us to care for this treasure. We are not to bury what he has trusted to us but rather to work with it to produce results.  We are well equipped to do great things. All that The Father has is ours and we are His.  We are not all called to the same tasks; however, we are all called to be faithful with our individual gifts and blessings. We are called do our part as members of the family of God. We are the Body of Christ. We are First Methodist Church of Center, Texas. We begin where Jesus began, we Love First.  We love as we have been loved by God.

See ya Sunday.

Blessings, Pastor Malcolm

"Then Jesus spoke to them again, "I am the Light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life." John 8:12

We used to play a game as children where we would all gather in a room and then have a volunteer leave the room while we moved ourselves around to different positions. At a signal, the volunteer

was returned to the room which by now was completely dark, and they were to find themselves around in the dark and identify the people they thought they had seen previously. No one moved as the volunteer felt his way around, and mistakenly identified his friends. It was a fun example of not being able to see what you thought you knew. I used to enjoy "caving" and would love to descend into the abyss, lower and lower to see a world totally foreign to me, but when the guide would turn out the only light, we would be suspended into a blackness which was beyond scary, leaving a feeling of paralysis until we could see that flashlight once more. Jesus knew we would be living in a world filled with darkness, as the enemy tried to blot out any goodness and light He would reflect.

But, He also reassured us that we would not walk in darkness as long as we kept our feet on His path, the Light of Life. How great is that? Father God, we thank You for sending Your Son into the world of darkness, and bringing Your salvation to light our paths toward You. Help us to hold fast to Your Light, believing Your Word is a light unto our path, and a Light unto our feet. We thank You and give You the praise, in Jesus name, Amen.
