Dear CSU Pueblo Faculty, Staff, and Students,
It is with a great humility and honor that I take on the role of Executive Director of Graduate Studies & Research at Colorado State University Pueblo. I have had the privilege of working in higher education for the past 25 years in at number of different institution types and I am excited to have the opportunity to work at one of only 3 public universities in the state of Colorado with a Graduate School.
I know there are many questions about the direction of the Graduate School and what some of our strategic priorities will be. Please know that I hope to take the next 30-60 days to meet with various constituencies across the Graduate School to gain insight and input on what some of the priorities should be. As Executive Director of Graduate Studies, I want to collaborate and partner with the Provost, Vice Presidents, deans, faculty, and students on the effective implementation of Vision 2028 and the overall future of the graduate school. At previous institutions, I have had the opportunity to help develop and expand degree programs, developed intergenerational mentoring communities, and worked with graduate faculty and staff to help create micro-externships that provided students with short-term (less than 40 hours) experiences to learn practical skills to supplement their academic learning. I’m excited to know that the Graduate School was able to hire and onboard Julie Powell, our Professional Learning & Career Advancement Specialist to help lead the way on developing opportunities and workshops for our students.
In the near future, we hope to have some sort of open house, or opportunity to gather and meet with the broader community in order to build and expand on our relationships and get feedback on the future direction of the Graduate School. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out or send your thoughts to me at john.vasquez@csupueblo.edu.
