Bees Making an Impact

Congratualtions to Lucas Culotta and Ryan Stewart for some impressive personal accomplishments! This past week, Lucas (11) swam at the OHSAA State Championship, where he won not one but two OHSAA State Titles! Lucas outswam the competition in the Para 50 Free and 100 Backstroke on his way to the top spot on the podium. Lucas is a member of the BBHHS Swim Team and is also a candidate for selection on the United States National Para team as he has continued training with the national squad this school year. Congratulations to Lucas on this impressive accomplishment, and we look forward to recognizing him at the Parade of Champions on Monday, March 11th.

We were also notified this week that Ryan Stewart (11) earned a PERFECT score of 36 on the most recent administration of the ACT, the highest possible score on the college entrance exam. Ryan has demonstrated outstanding academic performance throughout his high school career, consistently challenging himself with rigorous coursework and actively engaging in numerous extracurricular activities at BBHHS. Congratulations to Ryan on this outstanding individual accomplishment!

Good Luck, Speech and Debate, and Bees Gymnastics!

Best wishes to our Talking Bees as they head to Wooster HS this weekend to compete in the Ohio State Championship for Speech and Debate. The team was recognized in a school-wide state send-off this Thursday before departing that evening for the competition. We are excited to have Swarika Totapally (9),

Katie Young (9) and Nicky Toth (9) Duo Interpretation, Kaelyn Foley (12) Humorous Interpretation, Anna Painter (12) Informative Speaking, Donnie Karpowicz (10) and Alex Yeh (12) In International Extemporaneous Speaking, Shashini Mohan (10), Henry Churchin (11), and Hamsika Totapally (12) in Original Oratory, Aksh Dantal (9), Nakshatra Mohan (10), Atidya Mohan (10), and Colette Sarli-Freeman (12) in Congressional Debate.

During the same send-off, the Bees Gymnastics team was recognized as they prepared to defend their OHSAA State Championship. The Bees have won 20 consecutive titles and look to expand on their unbelievable dynasty as they seek their 21st team title in a row! Good luck as they begin the team competition on Saturday and the individual competitions on Sunday. The Swarm is behind you!

Campus Driving Expectations

We were reminded earlier this week of how essential safe driving practices are on and around campus as three students were hit in a crosswalk on campus in nearby Sheffield Lake by a driver. In recent weeks, we have received several notifications from parents, community members, and staff expressing their concerns about the erratic and unsafe driving habits of many on and around the BBHHS and BBHMS campuses, including cutting across parking lots, passing vehicles, and excessive speed. Please remind your child to drive safely as they arrive at school and depart for the day. We have increased our School Resource Officers' monitoring of drivers on campus throughout the school day. Still, the reality is that they can only be present at some times to monitor the driving practices of all students as they enter and exit campus.

We need your support in regularly communicating safe driving expectations to your child. Please also be aware that if a driver is observed operating their vehicle erratically while on campus, their parking privileges may be revoked, and the Broadview Heights Police Department may issue a citation for their violation of expected safety standards. We cannot encourage you enough to have this essential conversation with your child.

Academic Challenge

Do not miss our Bees Academic Challenge team, represented by  Alex Yeh, Will Minatel, and Elena Miinea as they will appear on Channel 5 WEWS this Saturday morning 3/2 at 11:30 am. The Bees will test their academic skill against teams from Hudson and North Olmsted as they compete in this longstanding Cleveland tradition. Tune in to see if you can beat them to the answers!

SAT Day Final Reminders

On Wednesday, March 6, 2024, from 7:45 am to 11:30 am, Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School will operate with an adjusted school day to deliver the SAT and Pre-ACT. Please be aware that regularly provided school food services for breakfast and lunch and regular school transportation schedules will be adhered to. Please review the following grade level breakdown to understand best what each grade level of students will be assigned to on March 6th:

Seniors

  • Seniors are not required to attend school on March 6th.
  • Seniors are to use this time to finalize scholarship applications, complete college enrollment processes, or schedule career shadowing experiences.

Juniors and Sophomores

  • All Juniors will take the digital SAT from 7:45 am to 11:30 am.
  • All Sophomores will take the Pre-ACT from 7:45 am to 11:30 am.
  • At the conclusion of testing, students will be dismissed for the remainder of the school day.
  • Students who elect to remain on campus after testing will be supervised in the cafeteria and will work on current course assignments until 2:45 pm.
  • Please note that students with testing accommodations such as extended time will not be dismissed until 1:30 pm. There are no exceptions to this requirement as required by the College Board or the ACT.
  • STUDENTS HAVE BEEN EMAILED THEIR TEST LOCATION!

  • School attendance is required for Freshmen and can be earned by attending school from 7:45-11:30 am and completing the scheduled career activities offered on campus or by completing specific and verified activities off-campus.
  • Freshmen will have the opportunity to participate in various off-campus activities that are to be independently scheduled, such as taking an initial college visit, participating in a career shadowing experience, completing community service hours, or participating in provided Naviance activities as provided by BBHHS.
  • These activities are designed to help freshmen begin preparing for college and career or to engage in service learning throughout the community.
  • Freshmen who wish to participate in the off-campus activities outlined above must complete the provided survey and provide verification of their participation by Friday, March 8th. Please do so to avoid an unexcused absence.

If you have questions regarding this day, please contact Mr. Jakub via email or phone at 440-740-4710.

Student Vending Account Pin Numbers

Please be aware that student access to vending machines will now require a new process to be able to purchase items. Students will now use their Student ID (located in ProgressBook) and their lunch PIN account for all vending machine transactions. This change will offer students additional security and less confusion as their account number management is now streamlined.

“Say Something”School Violence Prevention Extended Colony March 13th

On Wednesday, March 13th, BBHHS staff will provide students with training utilizing the "Say Something" School Violence Prevention curriculum modules. These modules are being offered to help students recognize the signs of potential acts of violence that may occur in a community-based setting and with training on how to report those concerns. This training will also fulfill our legislatively mandated Ohio House Bill 123 requirements. If you want to opt out your child from the "Say Something" School Violence Prevention training please complete the included Google Form.
