BIOGRAPHIES

Francisco Barillas Bedoya

Head of the School of Banking and Finance, University of New South Wales


Francisco is the Head of the School of Banking and Finance at the University of New South Wales. He holds a PhD in Economics from New York University where he was advised by Nobel Prize macroeconomist Professor Thomas Sargent. Francisco was formerly an Economist at the Central Bank of Canada where he regularly briefed the Governing Council and worked closely with the current Governor Doctor Tiff Macklem. Francisco started his academic career at Emory University in the Finance Department at Goizueta Business School. His research encompasses theoretical and empirical issues on asset pricing, the term structure or interest rates in particular on how they relate to the economy. Francisco’s research is widely referenced and used in real market modelling for asset pricing.


Kylie Willment

Senior Partner, Chief Investment Officer, Pacific, Mercer


Kylie Willment is a Senior Partner in Mercer’s Investments business, based in Sydney. She is the Chief Investment Officer for the Pacific region, and leads the Investment Management team, consisting of asset allocation strategists, portfolio managers and analysts across Australia and New Zealand. The team is responsible for managing approximately A$90 billion in assets within Mercer’s investment funds. Kylie is Chair of Mercer’s Australian OCIO Asset Allocation Committee and a member of the Public Markets Investment Committee, Private Markets Investment Committee, Mainstream Assets Global Investment Committee, the Investments and Pacific Leadership Teams. Prior to joining Mercer in October 2017, Kylie gained 25 years of experience in financial services, including 17 years at NSW Treasury Corporation (TCorp), where she was integral to the evolution of TCorp's investment function. Kylie is also a Non-Executive Director on the icare Board, where she is the Chair of the Investment and Asset Committee. Kylie holds a Master of Applied Finance from Macquarie University and is a Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA). She has also served as a Director of the CIMA Society of Australia and has been a member of the Investment and Wealth Institute’s Global Certification Commission.


Jemma Beattie

Strategic Investment Advice Leader, Mercer


Jemma has over 20 years’ experience providing investment consulting advice to large, sophisticated superannuation funds in the UK and Europe on areas such as asset allocation, portfolio construction, manager selection and governance issues. Jemma is the Regional Consulting Director for Australia and New Zealand where she works closely with the consulting, investment management and global strategic research teams. She also sits on Mercer’s local Research and Policy group which consults and engages with the marketplace and the government on issues of policy and change. Jemma also has wide experience of acting as an expert witness in court cases and mediations. Jemma has an Honours degree in Actuarial Science and is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.
