Happy Thursday Dear Church!
Words cannot adequately express my gratitude for everyone who had a part in our
All-Saints Sunday Worship. The Spirit was thick in our sanctuary. I hope and pray that you were moved by the simplicity and beauty of our time together. Wow … just wow!
And then, several hours later, your church reached out to this neighborhood in a spookingly way with our annual Trunk-or-Treat. There is nothing quite like seeing little ghosts and goblins, with a few Harry Potter characters thrown in. The Cones of Ramona were at the top of their game. This dear family simply amazes me. They do not do anything half-way. Make sure and checkout the pictures of this amazing event later in this email. Special thanks to Linda England, chair of our Board of Outreach and Ryan Kelton, our Council Scribe for the extra work they put into the fun.
So, every year, our Worship Board has to make the decision about two conflicting church holidays. Reformation Sunday and All-Saints Sunday. Most Lutherans celebrated Reformation this past Sunday and All-Saints Sunday this coming week. Flexibility … that is one of the things I love about the united Church of Christ. Thus, this Sunday, we will be celebrating Reformation Sunday, which as most of you know, is the day we celebrate the movement that made possible our existence in Mainline Protestantism. The passion and drive of Martin Luther ignited a new and liberating theology. He did not mean to leave the Roman church, but his passion propelled him forward. His famous statement to the leaders of the church … “Here I stand, I can do no other,” is a great reminder for us all to hold fast to our faith. Come Sunday, and if you remember, wear RED, the color of passion and fire. I love being your pastor.
Holding you close and lifting you high!
Pastor Greg

A Message from Pastor Debbie
Greetings,
Prayer is a practice that can be easy to procrastinate on. Think about what you prioritize in your life – eating? Looking at your phone? Going to the gym? So many things. Make a list of what they are. Is prayer on there?
To help make it a priority, I need to get into a “Rhythm of Prayer”. I must always get into a rhythm of walking (walking and prayer can go hand in hand). For prayer, each day I have my quite time and I ALWAYS begin with “Gracious and Glorious God”. I want to give God honor. They are my focus words. You may recognize that I do that in church too. I think of it like, “OK God, it’s me again. I am giving you the attention you deserve”.
Then I speak with my heart. God is there.
“The Holy is here, present with me.”
There are many special events at the church (see details in this newsletter):
November 14th, Interfaith Thanksgiving Service in Escondido at 7:00 pm.
November 19th is “Pie Day” during fellowship – bring a pie to share.
November 19th – Congregational Meeting.
November 26th – Advent begins.
Mark your calendars!
Blessings,
Pastor Debbie

This week we celebrate Reformation Sunday and we will be singing "A Mighty Fortress is Our God" by key reformer Martin Luther. This song is considered by many the battle hymn of the reformation. Check out this article that shares a bit more a out this song and how music played a part in the reformation.

UPCOMING EVENTS & WEEKLY NEWS
Hey there! Just a heads-up: don't forget to turn back your clocks this Saturday. Day-light savings time ends, so we will. “Fall Back” one hour!
Otherwise, you might end up at church an hour early, which could make for an interesting surprise! Service will still be at 9:15am, so make sure you're on the right time zone. See you Sunday!

Trunk or treat exceeded our expectations!
We're incredibly grateful to all of you who came and contributed your time, creativity, and boundless energy to make this event such a wonderful experience. Building Projects Update
Thank you for your generous support of our building projects! We have received pledges of $216,900 for the roof and other projects to be completed this year. Plus, additional pledges were made for the next 4 years towards long term building projects. It is not too late to make a pledge or a contribution towards our building fund. So far, $131,900 of that $216,900 has been received.
If you have any questions, please contact Linda England at treasurer@ccpucc.org.

Our Dearest Debbie!
If you were not in attendance during October, you missed a very important announcement from our longtime assistant pastor, Debbie Hallmark. Debbie informed us that she will be retiring at the end of the year. After so many years of service and love, it is now time for Debbie to live it up! We hate to see her go, AND we celebrate this new exciting chapter in her life. Keep tuned in for any special announcements regarding her departure.
WE LOVE YOU, DEBBIE!

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING
November 19th
What a joy it is to be part of a church that truly embraces the “CONGREGATIONAL WAY.” After our Thanksgiving Worship and PIE, we will convene for our November Congregational Meeting. We will be getting some updates and electing church leadership for the 2024 Ministry year. Make plans now to make November 19th a wonderful morning in community. Oh yeah … don’t’ forget to bring a PIE.

Thanksgiving Worship and PIE DAY.
Sunday, November 19th
You and your families will not want to miss our special Thanksgiving Worship on Sunday, November 19th. During the worship time, we will travel back to the early days of the frontier. You will be treated to 4 monologues of well-known Bible characters as if they were on the American frontier. You will be moved by the life realities they bring to us, encouraging us to be thankful. After worship, we will gather for PIE DAY. We had 20 pies last year and looking for more this year. Nothing says “Thanksgiving” like delicious homemade pies. Always keep in mind your pastor loves cherry. Hope to see many of you there.

A LITTLE HEADS UP FOR CHRISTMAS EVE 2023
Well, the calendar is doing it to us again. This year, Christmas Eve happens on a Sunday. Christmas Eve morning, we will offer a very “unplugged,” intimate, worship time with Communion. This morning gathering will last only about 30 minutes. Then, at 6:00 p.m. we will gather in the sanctuary for a Christmas Eve Worship Celebration. Christmas Eve and Easter are two days when we put many of our eggs in one beautiful basket. We always have visitors who want to worship in a church on Christmas Eve, as well as your extended families. Make plans now to be here, family in tow, and invite someone you know who needs what we have in this beloved community. So … go right now to your paper calendars and iphones and log this information. It is going to be a wonderful holiday season

Time to Deck the Halls
Saturday morning, December 2nd, we will be gathering to deck our halls for the Advent Christmas Season. We will begin at 9:00 a.m. We have found from the past, that the more folks we have, the quicker we create a beautiful result. Everyone is welcome, especially our kids.
Also, as we did last year, we are looking for those individuals who have an extra artificial tree at home. We would love to create a CCPUCC forest on the chancel. Let Pastor Greg know if you have a tree you would like to let us use. There will be food! Hope to see many of you there.

The JOY of FOOD!
Each week there will be a “Recipe of the Week” for the Buzz!
There will be a red basket in the Narthex where you can drop off your favorite recipes or please email them to julie@ccpucc.org. It can be any recipe from family favorites to ones recently discovered! We will be encouraging you to share your thoughts after you made the dish too.
