February is National Heart Month

American/Nebraska Heart Association (AHA/NHA)

The AHA/NHA works to help improve heart health and save lives across communities.

During, February, Heart Health month, the AHA/NHA wants to help turn bystanders into lifesavers by encouraging everyone to learn CPR.

If you are called to respond in a cardiac emergency, knowing CPR may save the life of someone you love. CPR, especially if performed immediately, can double or triple a cardiac arrest victim’s chance of survival.

COVID Latest Info

Latest data and research on COVID:

  • A big COVID wave is now peaking. Data shows COVID waves and infections are not seasonal like other respiratory illnesses and waves will come and go all year.
  • Infection transmission takes from one hour to several days.
  • Test at day 3 and day 5 after exposure, because it’s taking longer for the infection to show up in a rapid antigen test. You can get 4 free tests delivered. Order at COVIDTests.gov
  • Newest variant is causing fewer hospitalizations, likely due to level of immunity from vaccinations and past infections. However, COVID continues to lead in severe disease and hospitalizations, causing about 3 times more deaths than the flu.
  • Fall 2023 vaccines are effective against the newest variant.

Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving and protecting the health, wellness, and fitness of Lincoln's children, families, and seniors.

We work to improve wellness policies and conduct community level health research. We collaborate with community partners to promote healthy weights through good nutrition and fitness, improve child and maternal health by supporting breastfeeding, create better patient outcomes by increasing cancer screening and vaccination rates, improving chronic disease management, increasing preventative outreach, and standardizing clinical practices. During public health crises like the COVID 19 pandemic, we help to protect community health by providing science and evidence-based information.
Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln also works to improve health equity in our community, addressing disparities among racial and ethnic populations with the highest burden of chronic disease.  Systemic racism is also a threat to community health. We stand in solidarity with everyone who is fighting for greater equality and justice for all.
